Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

This NEEDS to happen. Normally I hate this kind of obvious throwback stuff... But this could work...

If done right with a quirky lil smile like he knew he was quoting what Kenobi said to him at the start of his adventure. :)

Have a solo kid go looking for him, showing that Luke had hermitted himself off somewhere like Yoda did. (why I don't know? Lol!)

^That would be cool. Along with the tradition of "I have a bad feeling about this...".

I agree. It doesn't have to be "heavy handed" and they don't need to beat us over the head with it, but if Hamill is going to have more than just a cameo appearance as Luke in at least one of the upcoming movies it would be a nice way to acknowledge Luke's relationship with Obi-Wan...err, Ben.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Oh please please please no hermit Luke! He deserves to be lauded as a hero, not tossed aside as old news (and yes Obi-Wan deserved that too, but he was given no other choice). He's got to rebuild the Jedi Order and maybe he waited the 30 years to build his experience as a Jedi, become a true master before trying to recruit more or something like that.

I disagree. To me, the Jedi always should be hermits of some sort. They're monks after all. The last thing I want is for Luke to be walking around getting high fives all the time.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Ah, see, I disagree, and think that's kind of the point of some of the messages in the PT. The Jedi had -- even though they were "involved" in the Republic -- become too removed from real life. It cost them their connection to the Force, and ultimately cost them their order's existence. Plus, the monastic approach -- particularly the more ascetic aspects thereof (e.g., "A Jedi shall not know love,") -- was ultimately repressive and cut them off emotionally.

Plus, it made 'em boring.

I think we agree on 90% of that. I saw what a Jedi SHOULD be (Medieval Monk, in meditation but still communes with the public) vs. what the Jedi had become (Vatican, totally detached from real life) as being the problem.

Luke should be the former.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Honestly? For the "7, 8, 9" I think it should be. This Star Wars story has always had a strong father & son dialogue going on.

Spin-off episodes I would love to see female leads but I think the continuation of this story should remain male. Otherwise they're ignoring their key demographic. A tweet from a reviewer is hardly evidence. :lol

A hermit, by definition, does not commune with the public, Obi-Wan didn't. The Jedi don't have to have a constant presence in the Republic, I see them more as a separate entity from organized government that can be used as a resource by the galaxy at large, independent systems and the Republic alike. They just shouldn't be a division of a larger government like they were in the PT. Give them their own planet to train on and meditate on, etc, to be called upon if, and only if, they are needed. Have the Jedi temple set up on Yavin and then bring them in on this new threat that develops.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

If Luke is the Last Jedi at the end of VI, there is no reason the Jedi order has to continue as it did before, he could be like Martin Luther (luke- luther?) and have his own radical ideas on rebuilding the order, like allowing marriage, or encouraging Jedi to live "amongst the people". Seems like the "old" ways didn't work out very well for the Jedi after all.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Well yea he doesn't have to follow the rules of the old order, he knows the old ways obviously didn't work. He has the opportunity to make the Jedi better than they were before, and I'm sure he would know that.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Hermit = My bad use of words. Meant monk. :)

He also, however, doesn't have anyone to tell him what did or didn't work in the Republic because he wasn't around and every Jedi that was is dead. I'm sure he'd make mistakes which is why an Ep. 7,8,9 is even possible.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Havent read through the mass off posts but I'd like to see.
-Boba Fett return and be a serious anti hero
-Han and Leias twins becoming one Jedi and One sith
-James Cameron direct. Im serious.

I'm not really sure I'd want to see an elderly Boba Fett.

I seem to recall that human females also have a thing called a biological father. So taking your comment to it's most logical conclusion, you don't think a female character would work because she won't have a dick.

In a spin off, sure. :)

Who says they have twins? EU is being thrown out the door from what I've heard. Would be interesting though. Or even better... Luke ends up going to the Dark Side and Leia's kid goes up against him.

-James Cameron direct. Im serious.

20 years ago I would have applauded this. Now he's one of those directors who is far too focused on the visual as opposed to the story. :thumbsdown
