Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Was really hoping Joe Johnston would get to direct Star Wars Episode VII, even Jon Favreau would have been a good choice.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Now that J.J. Abrams is directing, does it mean Michael Giacchino will be doing the score? I like Giacchino's music but it's weird to think Star Wars music without John Williams. Guess with a new saga and a new director, a new composer is inevitable.

And here is what Drew Struzan posted on his FB page about doing the posters for the new Star Wars movies.

"Misunderstood…

A couple of friends at Disney were fantasizing about the new STAR WARS movies.

"Disney" has said nothing to me and I expect nothing. That a couple of friends were wishing is only an expression of the hope that many are sharing but says nothing regarding the Studio itself. Even if 'they' did ask, which Disney has not, I'd rather leave the new films to the next generation to interpret. I've had my time and they were exceptional blessings for which I will forever be grateful.

Tomorrow is a new day…drew"

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think JJ is over rated. I like some of his stuff but the fan worship I never understood. And I though Lost sucked.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

okay so now we have JJ, b u t....
what about the music???
if it's not John....

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think this awesome news - even if I would've went another direction. I think the big difference between his Star Trek and Star Wars work is that he is a SW fan and was admittedly not a Trek fan.

Does this mean that we're going to get lens flairs in Star Wars? I doubt it.

My top pick would still be Edgar Wright. I do think the Affleck idea is pretty awesome, too.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

HAHAHAHHA!

Wow. So much for that "Loyal to Star Trek" crap. This is just... Wow.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

If true, then this news actually makes me happy. I really dig most of Abrams stuff work as a director...I think he is easily the type of guy that can bring fun back to the franchise.

I just hope he doesn't let Orci and Kurtzman near the screenplay...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

As long as he doesn't let the writer from Prometheus get his hands on the script....

I'm shocked at their choice in a way. But I guess it makes sense. I was hoping for Matthew Vaughn.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

$20 says that JJ will not once say "I am not making this movie for Star Wars fans, I am making this for movie fans".

Good God I hope not... Or at least if he does, I hope he writes in Williams' style. That guy can't write a score for crap. Seriously, the Trek '09 score was a joke.

As for JJ directing this, eh, I actually think he could do a somewhat better job. If Trek '09 is any indication, he clearly is more of a Star Wars fan than a Star Trek fan.

Although, frankly, I'd rather have Joss Whedon direct. THAT guy is a Star Wars fan.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think this is fantastic and I think this movies potential just got MUCH better.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't know what to think really. I LOVED the new Star Trek movie. Not so much a fan of Damon Lindelof though. Abrams is a hype man. He knows how to sell hype. Super 8 was terrible. But that had a bad script. Good characters, great child actors (which says a LOT because it seems there are nearly no good child actors anymore) but seriously lacking a plot. It's just one surprise after another.

Kathleen Kennedy to take over Lucasfilm
Then they announce Lucasfilm's sale to Disney
Then they announce a new trilogy. 7. 8. and 9, with spin off films
Episode 7 to be released 2015
Michael Arndt to script Episode 7
And now J.J. Abrams is set to direct Episode 7

It's a crap shoot. It could be the best thing to happen to the series since the OT ended, or it could be the worst.
