Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Imho great news. I enjoyed Trek and Cloverfield. Anything should be a step up from the last three flicks.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I'm going NOOOOO as Abrams is up there with Bay on directors who should be directing commercials only.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I am glad to hear that JJ is in the director's chair, I had fun at Star Trek '09... Granted I treat Star Trek as a fun show, and I do't get into the really detailed stuff... But it was a fun film, well, for me...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Can't believe all the disdain towards Abrams. After I saw his Star Trek reboot, I walked out saying "I wish the prequels had been that damn good". Outside of Joss Whedon I can't think of a better "geek" to tackle the SW universe and I'll gladly come back to this thread and eat crow in 2015 if he doesn't deliver an awesome movie!!!

Honestly, this just seems like a case of SW fans needing something to complain about. Imagine that.

+1 except the eating crow part. :)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Star Wars, Star Trek...

It's all becoming the same.

JJ should do a crossover and get it over with.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I'm not a J.J. hater, and I enjoyed the new Trek movie...but I'm just a little baffled as to why they picked him.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Because he's a passionate fan of Star Wars, a decent story teller, and a great director.

Well.. in my opinion. My opinion isn't everyone's though... :)

I would think he'd want to do a faithful telling of the story that won't be of some of the crazy stuff we've seen of Abrams before. I think he's very capable and will do a great job.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

It just strikes me as odd because now the same guy is at the helm of Star Wars and Star Trek. And someone at Lucasfilm and/or Disney must be aware that there was significant online backlash against JJ's vision of Trek. Which is of course not to recognize the reality that they're looking a much wider market than just the hardcore fans, but with so many other rumored directors who would have been more capable and would have come with less 'baggage,' choosing JJ seems odd.

I'm sure he'll do a perfectly fine job with it, I don't think he'll 'ruin' Star Wars or anything, but I swear, if I see any lens flares....well, then I'll come on here and complain about it, I guess. :lol

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Do we really think JJ - or any other director for that matter - will have a lot of freedom in his artistic choices with Disney and Lucas still "advising"? Joss would have been perfect but maybe tough to handle for Disney?

I think he is a capable director and frankly, any choice of director would have found lovers and haters. In my opinion it would have been great to separate the ST and SW director jobs as I am just afraid of too many similarities.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

That's exactly my beef today with so many movie, comic and tv projects: too creator-driven, not character-driven.

My point being, why should I care if something is written or drawn or directed by Joe Schmoe, as long as it's good?

Too tough to handle? He already gave Disney the 3rd most profitable film of all time with The Avengers, which I think most folks liked.
