Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

They were responding to a picture of a bearded Mark Hamill implying his role as an Obi-Wan type of Jedi Mentor.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

This works for me. If he sports a beard he seems more "wise jedi master" to me.

I like the scragly beard he's got in the newer pic. And no, I'm not reading 62 pages looking to see if anyone posted a beard pic before. :p

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

It must be Mark's complexion or something that ages badly, but this poor guy looks disproportionately older in this picture than Alec Guinness looked in Ep. IV even at similar ages. But the look would work well for the age and wisdom associated with Jedi Knights.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Seems about the same age to me. The car accident certainly affects his looks though.

They are chronologically (Guinness ~63 and Hamill ~61), but Mark just looks like leather where Guinness didn't really. Certainly not important to any potential story plots; just an observation.

I remember back in '77 or '78 when the Topps trading cards came out and there was this observable difference in Mark's looks from one photo to another. It wasn't until much later than I learned of his auto accident. It really did change his looks!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't know how old you are, but it's weird to imagine that Mark Hamill is (roughly) the same age now as Alec Guinness was then. Tick tock, tick tock goes the biological clock!!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

And therein lies the fuse to the timebomb of my quickly-evaporating childhood!!! :cry
I'll never forget the day I realized I was older than Homer Simpson :confused:lol
Welcome to the time warp! :thumbsup

How about realizing the day you're older than landing on the moon...?! This is serious stuff!! :wacko:lol

Definitely. Every time I watch ESB I can't believe it was only a couple years after the filming of ANH.

I know! What a difference a car accident and several months make!!! Though Mark never complained about any of it, did he?! :lol

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think it gives his face character. I can imagine Luke being battle scarred and perhaps a bit world weary. From a story stand point it could really sell the transition of an idealistic young man who became a hero, into an older, wiser Jedi master. By the end of Jedi he was still in his prime, having just achieved his knighthood. Even if his role in the new story was small, it would still be so great to see my favorite character in a brand new theatrical Star Wars movie.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

War and falling on hard times definitely can physically take a toll on people. I don't have a problem seeing Luke in some of these conceptual pics people have been posting. It would be pretty fitting.

As a matter of fact I would be very disappointed if we saw him in regal robes! I like my Star Wars a little grungy and worn.
