Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

that's awesome for you, man. I gotta say, though...I can't relate at this point. I think that's probably because I was so bitterly disappointed by the PT and the direction it took the entire franchise, alongside Lucas' refusal to release a decent version of the OT and continually mucking about with it.

At this point, as I've said before, I just want the OT restored to its former glory. Everything after that I have very little hope for. It could all turn out great, of course, I'm just not that invested in it anymore. For me, Star Wars is the classic OT era and the Zahn stuff. Past that, I have a hard time getting interested anymore.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Maybe it's because I in a way get to relive the fascination with Star Wars through my nephew, who, without any interference from me has become a huge Star Wars fan. Can't wait to show him the films, when his mother allows it - I said 8, she said 15, I said bollocks.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I'm one of those rare oddities in the star wars "community" that actually likes Star Wars as a whole and not just the OT. I liked the PT as a whole, but of course i had my gripes, one of which is that last point you made. Too much over-reliance CGI and not enough practical locations, sets, creatures, etc. R2-D2 didn't make a physical appearance even once in Ep III nor did the clones in either II or III. So definitely more practical everything in the ST.

I feel the same on both parts.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I can actually watch ep1 from start to finish... can't do the same with ep2 or ep3. I envy those who can... but only ep1 of that bunch feels like something okay to watch for me.

I have the same problem with those two, in Atoc it's the extremely boaring love scenes, in Rots it's the emotions of Anakin towards him becoming Vader which take to long, all the good stuff just flashes by, it should be the other way around.

I hope disney has learned from this, and leave the long boaring palace scenes out of the movies and replace them with more intense space battles or chase scenes or jungle scenes, good jungle scenes almost always deliver good suspense, that's why I want a lot of bounty hunter scenes in there, if they remind of the first predator movie, than that would be agood sign.

A lot of Jungle, space or maybe even oceanic scenes= Very Good!
A lot of Sith vs Jedi scenes, love scenes, kiddy scenes, Gungan or ewok scenes(this time)= very bad!!!

Okay I know Star Wars is supposedly to be watchable for kids, but I hope disney doesn't take this to literaly, we need some EsB type of scenes in there, like asteroid field kind of scenes reminiscent of scenes like that of the Space slug scene, for instance.

Let the Hype begin!.....okay it started already.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Ep 3 is the best of the prequels imo. Ep 1 is my least fav. The pod race scene is great, but the final battles doesnt work that well. My wife and my kids loves it though, and I can enjoy it.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I'm not crazy about the prequels, I dont hate them, but I dont think they are that great either, but I like them better than the animated clone wars stuff. I just hate that style of animation. I cant get into it.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Well, true believers, given that they are NOT using the EU material, then we all have a wide awakening in 2015

1) Han and Leia NOT necessarily married, and no Jacen, Jaida, Anakin's, etc....
2) No Mara Jade
3) No Grand Admiral Thrawn
4) No Emperor clone (probably a good thing)
5) Fett DID NOT escape the Sarlacc
6) Chewbacca still alive
7) No Rogue Squadron adventures

:wacko

OH GOD NO! (or is that nnNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo!!!!?) SAY IT ISN'T SO! (or is that ssSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!!!).

Wait...that stuff was short-bus special, I can live with it.

Balance...ugh, can we agree then that this was another incredible innapropriate choice of words (something like 'exile':rolleyes)? I don't care if Lucas said that's what balance is in some behind the scenes interview; he keps using that wohrd...I do not think it means wha he thinks it means.

Oh, and calling it now - Kasdan won't do it if the above report is even legit.

I don't think the prequels are nearly as bad as everyone thinks. I don't think they're great by any means, but I think the story that George wanted to tell came out much more cohesively than he gets credit for.

I disagree with you on Clone Wars though, I think that's the best Star Wars material we've seen in years in any media format (books, games, etc).

No it fits, and again I think a lot of people are skimming posts and not reading them. Balance was a Jedi prophecy. The Jedi see "balance" as no Dark Side. It should be Light only. So the Jedi say the Force is inherently Light. It's that simple.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Everything gets rebooted nowadays. Why postpone the inevitable?

Dear Disney,

Step one- release the original unaltered Star Wars trilogy on blu ray to appease the hardcore fan who will accept nothing else.

Step two- reboot the franchise, film it all together the way Peter Jackson did LOTR. It's guaranteed to make $

People keep forgetting that 20th Century Fox own the distribution rights, yo.

15??? That's one year short of being allowed to drive a car in the US and buying smokes/beer over here in a lot of european countries. The movies arent THAT adult-oriented!
My son (who's 2 1/2) will be allowed to watch TCW when he's around 6-7 and the movies a couple of years later, like 9-11...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Say what you want about Ep#1 but at least it feels like a complete finished movie. The way the story lays out, the replay value where you are still noticing details about it after seeing it several times . . . it feels like what I expect from Lucas/Spielberg in their prime. (Yes I'm aware that Spielberg was not involved in any of the SW movies.)

Ep#2 and #3 are more crowd-pleasing. The darker tone, grown up Anakin, no Jar-Jar, etc. But they were not better movies overall IMHO. They both feel slammed-together at the last minute. Particularly #2. Some parts of those movies were important to GL and other parts were clearly not.

To whoever said above they wanted aliens like Sullustans, Bothans and Rodians: I completely agree!
I'd like to see "classic" SW races like the ones mentioned, maybe the occasional Gran, Mon Cal, Bith and Wookiee. But I won't mind (non-evil) Zabrak, Togruta or Kel Dor. Those are all iconic enough...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Just because they will be original stories doesn't necessarily mean they wont include characters, places, etc. from the EU, as fan service to those who enjoyed them.

30 years is a long time in which to better yourself and come up with some fighting style and practice it until it's second nature. So that's not necessarily true. Jedi are always looking into themselves and the Force seeking all kinds of knowledge.

My point wasn't entirely on the fighting style, though that was part of it. My point was that centuries of Jedi teachings were lost in ROTS and that the Jedi of Luke's order would not be nearly as skilled as Jedi then, therefore the fighting would not be as fast and intense and there would be a much more limited use of the force.
