Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

If Joss Whedon can make a great Avengers movie, then certainly someone can make a great Star Wars movie.

Actually I pull back my last post - don't look at Kasdan as the man who wroye Empire and Raiders - see him as the man who brought us French Kiss. And remember the one thing that assures us this will be a lame movie -- it's DISNEY.

iron man, thor, captain america, avengers, toy story, monsters inc, WallE, Up, Brave...
are just a few of those lame movies that disney companies made in the last few years.
just sayin'

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Id say Disney is one of few that could pull this off. Biggest problem, like Ive said, is if there is a new story strong and big enough to fill the SW format.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

ok i know whe had a bajillion star wars disney pics, but this one is just too good to not post

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Well, I am not overly excited about the new film, but at least it isn't based off the clone wars. But if Disney can pull off a good dark story and atmosphere, I may consider watching it.

Yeah but on the flipside of that you've got Prince of Persia and the Pirates sequels. Just sayin'.

Disney are by no means the all father.

developed by disney directly. i only stated movies by companies that disney aquired, and that was making good movies afterwards.

Agreed.

I hate Disney, hate all that it stands for, but this post is true.

Some of those are highly debatable, and Monsters Inc. is only getting some retroactive love - it was perceived as the weakest Pixar production when it was released. Iron Man is not a brilliant film, but it gets by on RDJs charisma. The last act is a mess, and devloves into CGI robots hitting each other for zero emotional impact. Toy Story 3 had nothing new to say, and was inoffensive but irrevlevant; it doesn't give me hope for continuing SW. Up? Well that's lightning in a bottle - it's damn near perfect.

...But if Disney can pull off a good dark story and atmosphere, I may consider watching it.

SW is not a gothic novel. 'Dark' and 'Gritty' are ****ty marketing buzzwords popularized after Nolan's first Batman reboot, as an easy way to pitch tapped-out properties to executives, and have nothing to do with quality. I can think of nothng WORSE than trying to make SW 'dark' because it says to me that 1. that team doesn't understand SW and 2. there really isn't a plan here, just desperation to jumpstart a dead franchise. So far so good though...

Whedon needs to stay away from SW. He directs quirky character moments exceedingly well, but so far I've not been terribly impressed with his attempts to handle a tentpole picture. This may be anathema 'round here, but I thought Avengers was tedious, relied on bad kung-fu movie logic ("I see that you are powerful maybe you would like to TEST your powerfullness...against MY IRON FIST let us fight!!!") to provide mostly fanwanky sequences of 2nd tier superheroes going all Street Fighter on each other for no readily explicable reason, all while the big bad that was supposed to be uniting them goes unattended and undeveloped. Serenity on the other hand was quite good, and most remarkable in that I cared about these characters despite never seeing Firefly, but so much smaller scale that it's not really in the event-picture arena at all. Just Whedon...no. Besides, go make us Dr. H. 2 already!

sorry to get off topic but...
Avengers was okay, if he (Whedon) didn't kill off Coulson... then it would have been Great! :p hehehe

now back to SW7. :)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

How does everyone feel about Gore Verbinski as a cantidate? After watching the Rango docs, this is a guy I can see taking on a project this huge. He's proven he can handle huge action, and balance it with really efficient character development. He's worked extensively with ILM, so knows the process. Also, he's got nothing lined up after Lone Ranger which is finishing up...just saying is all.

The Marvel movies were already in production before being bought - meaning development was over. Same goes for the Pixar films except Brave - which I didn't care for. Those movies bypassed the Disney developement pit of horrible ideas. Imagine all those execs just waiting to put their 2cents in Star Wars - just to point and say "that was my idea"

Ok, literally all but like two of those you mentioned were great movies. And Disney didn't "make" those movies, they just own the companies that made them.

you must be new to the internet, if you cant read sarcasm :D

that was exactly my point. also, disney doesnt make the star wars movies, lucasfilm does. why should it be any different with lucasfilm than it is with marvel or pixar.
