Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

I still can't figure out if Starkiller base is going to be able to move around like the Death Star in order to blow up planets. How can a planet have a propulsion system and what happens to it's gravitational pull when it leaves a system?

There's precedent in the EU for hyperspace-capable weapons and hyperspace-traversing tractor beams, so I'm utterly fine with Starkiller Base. I'm also utterly fine with superweapons. Galactic civilization has been around for over 25,000 years. That's a long time to have hyperspace travel, repulsorlifts, force fields, tractor beams, plasma weaponry, and all that other jazz and not see it developed into large scale stuff like that and used offensively.

But unlike the Death Star that can.........I mean USED TO move was able to destroy planets. Now Starkiller Base is a "weapon capable of destroying entire solar systems" but what good is it if it can't get to the solar system????

We don't know how it works or what it's range is. Planets rotate, planet rotate around a star, so there is variability to where it can aim assuming it can only aim line of sight. But maybe it doesn't, maybe it can utilize hyperspace. we don't know yet.

Would you really want to be in the solar system when it's destroyed. Think about it. My guess is it doesn't move at all and fires from a vast distance.

Lets just hope they don't have leap years in the SW universe... Starkiller base approaching 365 days or is it 366?!?

Or perhaps it uses a satellite reflector,.....that could allow it to shoot almost anywhere.......bit 007 style?

I'm trying to control my eye-rolling. Given there's precedent in the EU for hyperspace weapons, and given this is a planet that's in a star system (and not rogue, like Cybertron), of course it's a hyperspace weapon. Yeesh. How is there still confusion on this? And since the chasm seems to run all round the planet, from the poster, I'm guessing the emitter can rotate to any needed facing, and also that the emitter has more firing angles of incidence than straight away from the planet.

I think that's no Maz's castle we see being destroyed. To me it looks like it's the Yavin rebel base from EpIV.

If you look closely, the two highest tower's tops look like this

And also look at the base of the right tower (in the TV spot), it has pillars that look like the ones from Throne room....

It's Maz's Castle, 100%. That's been rumored, that's the sequence described, all of it.
