Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

Is it really that big of a deal?

Actually... yes. A constructed, fictional universe like this, or Star Trek, or Transformers, or Back to the Future relies on the verisimilitude provided by millions of little bits of data, and the consistency of those bits of data throughout. It creates through intention the scaffold of a cohesive "reality", on which the story is then hung. If that scaffold is shaky or flawed, the whole thing is subject to collapse. This is one of the reasons time-travel stories should be avoided -- writers almost never get the mechanics right, and the resulting paradoxes damage the seeming reality of those fictional universes. All of George's revisions along the road of Star Wars' evolution have done more damage than good. And EU content contributors who misinterpreted this or mistook that have made things worse.

In this instance, T-47's being the snowspeeders Luke's ground-effect airspeeder defense group were about to fly into combat (and thus wouldn't be being loaded on anything) makes no sense, would be the last thing on a medical droid's mind, and the link drawn between the term and the item subtly damages the fabric of that constructed universe.

Meanwhile, too excited about the season premiere of Rebels tonight to get that worked up over the newest trailer-release announcement. I'll probably be checking in with much more excitement about it come Monday morning. :p

Also, at this point in the film when the conversation happened, the Rebels were evacuating,.....Luke was getting ready to jump into his X-Wing or something,....immediately after the med scene, the Rebel command are alerted that a group of Star Destroyers had jumped out of Lightspeed,.....and only then, after Reiken announced to get ready for a ground assault, were the Speeders needed

J

ANYWAY,......EXCITING TIMES!!!!!!

Cant wait

If you had a bunch of heavy weaponed vehicles that could help you later on, would you leave them behind? They work in other environments others then snow too!

You have your sequence slightly jumbled. Luke is in the medbay recovering. Leia and Han leave to answer the PA call for "headquarters personnel [to] report to [the] command center". That's when scanners had picked up the probe droid, which Han went out to investigate. When he reported back what he'd found, Leia realized it was an Imperial probe droid. That's when Rieekan ordered the evacuation. Then we cut to the scene on the Executor where they receive the aborted probe transmission and Vader orders the fleet to the Hoth system. Back in Echo Base, one of the Rebel officers is telling a subordinate that "groups seven and ten will stay behind to fly the speeders". So at that point, they already knew they were going to be using the snowspeeders to buy time defending the base. Then, after an interlude of the Falcon still not working right, we get the exchange between the medical droid and Luke -- while the latter is putting on his insulated parka to head for his snowspeeder, not his X-wing. Yes, after that is when the fleet is detected coming out of lightspeed and Rieekan says to prepare for a ground assault... but based on the prior scene, everyone is already doing just that.

Apologies to anyone subscribed to this thread hoping for new announcements regarding TFA. These B-Wing/fighter nomenclature posts should probably be shunted over to the "Star Wars questions you always wanted answers to" thread...

Well if you are someone who accepts that the T-47 was the snowspeeder then you have to completely write off the snowspeeders that the pilots were using to attack the AT-ATs. They would have probably have been abandoned so the pilots could take their X-Wings. Of course they also had transports landed near the X-Wings to load the snowspeeders on, but with no hangar they probably had to be taken apart partially and stowed. I think the real question is how was the Empire not attacking that assembly area full of big fat transports and X-Wings after the shield went down?

You're also forgetting a key element. Snow speeders, as they've come to be known as, are not SNOWspeeders at all. Remember when Han went to look for Luke? The guy Han spoke to said something to the effect of "They're having trouble adapting the speeders to the cold". You wouldn't think you'd have to adapt something with "snow" in it's name to the cold, would you?

New pic or old?

It's not new.

Does anyone else think she looks a little Jake Lloyd-ish in that pic? Her outfit and the look on her face...

Come on trailer! LEAK ALREADY!!! AHHH!!!

I know that at least one local theater has it in there possession...

If they say it's either an ancient Sith lightsaber or based on one, I'll buy that. Otherwise just no. Even Ewan McGregor said it was dumb and anyone who knew how to use their lightsaber wouldn't need that.
