Your probably right and if so I will be very disappointed. Like you said, you and I think a lot were hoping for it. It would give us some tie to the original characters since the talk about the OT people being in it more was total B.S. At least having the Solo twins would make you care more for the characters than just random new people.
First, I'll say again that despite rumors and leaks and speculation that is some hit and some miss, the movie isn't out yet and we have no real, clear knowledge of the content of the plot and its pacing. From what I know of story construction, I'm laying my bets on Finn deserting, his compatriots taking exception to this, Rey helping him escape, by chance or design, on the
Falcon, that -- again by chance or by design -- the come into contact with Our Heroes, Hand and Chewie board first, we get that line, and the OT folks have
some presence in the film for the rest of it. That moment above is most likely the transition from act one to act two. Depending on how much needs to be in the irst act, and how long the total run-time is, probably about 40 minutes or so in.
As for caring about the characters... I can't disagree with you more. Whether they were lifted directly from the EU or made completely whole-cloth, They can be people we care for or not, depending on how they're handled. Apologies to the folks who loved the PT, but I use that as an example of filmmakers failing to get the audience invested in the characters, and we know who the principles were going to be from the OT. Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the twins' mother (before we knew her name). It is every filmmaker's job to see that you care about the main character(s),
regardless of expectations, or lack of, or prior films, or books, or anything. Most movies don't have the crutch of prior material to shore up audience interest.
Sweet, maybe there's still hope she is a Solo. They need to have one child from the Skywalker/Solo clan for the episodic features. The episodes have always been about the Skywalker family, I think it should continue to be that way for the non-anthology movies.
I still maintain that Obi-Wan is the main character of the PT, despite Anakin being a strong (had he been handled right) supporting character. We're stuck with all the reveals the PT spoils for the OT, but we don't have to be so utterly beholden to the six films being the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. Regardless of whether Kylo Ren is or is not Han and Leia's son, or Rey is their daughter, or BB-8 is R2-D2's love child, or any of it, close association is enough for me, as it was with the Obi-Wan to Luke transition.
