STAR WARS - Skeleton Crew props & costume

Fantastic work. If there's one small detail that might need tweaking, it looks like the cutout in the pommel is a slightly acute angle. (I assume the parts for this were cut by hand?)

Here's a crude markup to highlight it:

Yep. I'm sure there are a number of things that aren't going to be 100%, given that I'm designing of of mostly screen grabs (though I did have this one stunt photo thanks to Paul Wintner). But, considering that I had 2 days to do the redesign, and given that I was constrained by the electronics that had already been setup in the model, I'm pretty proud of what I came up with.

This is what drew me to therpf, the pro level design audit for free. Ya, I know a lot of folks who call it nitpicking but it is legit free audit work done by those that actually care. I soak up everything anyone points out and I double check to see if they are correct and implement it. Afterward when all the compliments come through for the extreme level of detail, I always mention that without the "this"and"that" from these thread comments, it would still have been fun, but not nearly as much as it is with the input and improvements. At work, my rule is: I should never be the only auditer of my own work.

Keep up the awesome design work. Very well done.

Exactly, with starkiller it’s always been a group effort, he’s always worked like this allowing us to give our input.

It makes it exciting and also special knowing you contributed to the design

I’m excited for this, but sure hope TXQ stays true to the starkiller upgrades

Episode 7 has at least one scene with a clearer view of it (around 11:35), but once again there's the pistol in front of it most of the time. The mentioned timestamp has the best view of it that I remember, need to watch the episode again a second time.
Alright, episode 7 wasn't as good as I hope when it comes to seeing the belt buckle clearly. Episode 5 seems to have the best views, such as this one:

One big benefit of this episode is that they're walking around outside in bright sunlight - in most other episodes the buckle details aren't as clearly visible as the scenes are quite dark

Played around with the lighting on my phone.
Looks symmetrical so should not be to hard to make a 3D model

This is perfect. I can start sculpting. Honestly, so many "thank you"s to you. Do you have any suggestions or guesses on clasp type or location? I think I see a keeper pin on the right but maybe that is just screen noise from the low light? Almost looks like it is looped back equally on both sides?? But why? Wouldn't that indicate it is decoration and not a true buckle? I hope I am just not seeing how it functions because if so it points to have a second clasp somewhere else on the belt.

This is what I meant though about believing this to be more storyline driven instead of just a belt. That looks like a clan symbol or similar association buckle. Might just be someone's excellent artsy side but personally I want it to mean something. Fingers crossed.

Either way this is a beautiful buckle and a great specificity piece to being HIS costune in a full Cosplay build. Anything specific to the character keeps us out of those awkward moments when someone says, "Wow nice Boromir cosplay."

One thing on the sabre, I think the small low profile 'box' doesn't sit on top of the brass and silver thin sleeve sections, to me it looks they are cut around it. There's some deep shadow/recesses along the edges pictured on one of your grabs that wouldn't be there if it sat on top. You can also see a slight rounding of the corners where the brass section and the aluminium? section and 'box' meet

Just a quick and maybe funny thought. The T shape is on a pivot, pushing back on the horns releases a lug at the bottom of the T that goes into the leather to secure and release the belt. Looks like the belt holes would line up. The top of the figures are rounded to allow for this.

That's how I drew it

I love this idea. It also lends a lot to have the two sides separate with the animal facing one direction being the catch and the part under in (closer to the skin) have the hook or holes. When the two come together it forms the image.

About the belt, first thing I was thinking of were two animal heads facing each other.
OK, so this will be my pburgess attempt at overthinking it and still being on the mark (gotta claim some of that accuracy luck for myself):

I definitely see two animals but only now that you mentioned it almar bouwman and to go waaaaaay out on a limb... I think that what sits behind them is a scale. The symbol of a balanced force. Yep, I feel silly for even mentioning it but it totally works. If you take yin yang, untwist that famous symbol facing them head to head, while both sit in the balance..... I will ask this, if you look again and remove the two seeming "animals", do you NOT see a balance scale like this:

It reads as just decorative to me, maybe with the real fastener hidden in the back of the belt?

OK, the buckle, which I now refer to as the "balance of the force" does look to separate just the one "force" from the buckle. I can see where the one in the right of the picture (His left side) is perfectly aligned with the plate behind it BUT the left of picture animal/force representation is loose and connects at the top but the bottom is swinging away, not lining up with the plate behind it. So, definitely going with it disconnects the smaller section on his right hand.

Could it be as simple as this is the hook coming through from the back into the slot where I imagine the plate of the scale being?

Someone has to reign me in here. Feeling silly with guessing like crazy but wouldn't that mean when you put the belt on you are putting the "force" into the balance or "in balance".

I swear, if it turns out to be a freaking bowcaster between two dolphins, I give up on symbolism for a year.

The closest image in the many Jedi symbols seems to be the fan created Gray Jedi but upside down.... and not a sword but just a balance. Or the sword blade was broken off or hidden.

OK, Gray Jedi is my final answer. He is a fan theory Gray which is why he quoted Jinn.

Fearing total mental collapse, I am going to quit while I am behind. Still feeling very out on a limb on this one.
