Star Wars Andor (Disney+ TV series)

Man oh man, what a show. I enjoyed watching Kenobi and BoBF at the the time, but now when I think back to them they feel…empty somehow. Like takeout Chinese food, tasty at the time but ultimately unsatisfying. I think Andor will leave me feeling full. What a worthy companion to Rogue One.

Since I first saw Star Wars back in '77 I've always been more into the Empire. Even though they were the bad guys they were always my favorites. After watching Andor I feel like thats changed. I want to be a rebel.
That’s exactly what I felt. I have always been an Imperial fan (one of my collection room displays consists of 300 stormtrooper figures). It’s definitely my focus in most aspect of the fandom…But man, this episode was inspiring. All I wanted to do was be in that crowd fighting back with them. When the kid got the IED off and it detonated the cases of grenades I felt like “we” got a really good one off. I wanted to cheer or get up and do something after watching that.

-First off, I made it through a whole series without commenting on a single bit of it until it was finished.. now it's finished...that's a real accomplishment for someone like me. Lol.

- Secondly, in my first written post on this thread when the trailer was released I made a prediction of what I thought the show would be like...pretty accurate.
The Good
- It was well produced, well cast. The writing and dialogue was far above that of TBOB and Kenobi, both of which I did not not like.
- Acting was superb
The not so good
-
Did not " feel" like Star Wars to me at all
-too serious
-Andor bores me and is predictable
-killed off a good character early " The Journal guy". I like him.
-Luthen would be a way more interesting protagonist
-Luthen's ship is cool except for the giant lightsaber beam...dumb( maybe Holdo could have used that tech to, you know, cut Snoke's ship in half while going lightspeed without actually running into it.) But I digress.
-It's not Star Wars...oops already mentioned that.
- It's wwaaaay tooo ssllooow, honestly the whole series could be told quicker with the same dramatic impact( My teacher would always chastise me for handing in a 14pg essay when she asked for 5...now i know why, which leads me to the worst part.

The Worst Part

-The replay value is horrible( will never rewatch)
-nothing reached the core of my heart emotionally in this.
-They had to validate their precious TLJ with the " Canto Bight" reference ( puking)
- The swearing (has no place in Star Wars)
-With the amount of great acting and investment, they must have spent a fortune producing this show which, to me, is a giant slap in the face to do it here...when they succeeded in messing around with Legacy characters so poorly, cheaply and disrespectfully. Especially, surrounding a character as boring and lifeless as Cassian Andor.
- It's simply not Star Wars...crap, I keep repeating that.

In conclusion, this show started out as a " Even if..." For me, it ended up being exactly what I thought it would be at its finest...Great Actors, well produced, serious, better written...but the problem for me is the guy who owns the title to this show...I'm sorry, but Luthen is the only reason why I'd continue watching this series, not Andor...why? He's intriguing, mysterious, I want to know more. Andor is a foregone conclusion. So, yes, thanks for Luthen but no thanks for Andor, Cereal boy and his Crush and the whole Mon Mothma garbage and her Canto Bight live in, poor excuse for a husband...Btw, I caught every single hint of their infused agenda in this show, which is becoming so tiresome, not just in Star Wars but with everything else as well.
Oh, and did I mention that it's not Star Wars?

Please...don't call Steak a Pork Chop, they are two different things. Andor is more like Dallas or Falcons Crest. I am happy so many people like it. I can't say enough good about the actors and the acting...I mean it makes TBOB and Kenobi look like an after school special. I just find it lifeless, without adventure, predictable( apart from Luthen), and simply nothing captivating my heart emotionally. Could those that loved this convince me they would rewatch this like they did the OT? Can you picture kids playing with Star Wars figures of this show the way we did as kids with the OT? Not a chance.

Alright, now you can all bash me. I'm going back to my cave to work on some lightsabers.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

That's something I've appreciated about Andor and why I don't mind that they showed where the stuff they were making in the prison colony ends up - it gives a deeper look into the mechanisms of the fascist empire in SW and why it was important for the rebels to... err... rebel.
Through that deeper look we see parallels with our own real word history. The oppressed being forced into slave labour by fascists, made to produce the weapons that cause more suffering and oppression.
I think it gives more meaning and dimension to the good/evil struggle in the SW universe. It gives more meaning to the celebrations at the end of ROTJ when Vader and Palpatine were beaten.

Opionate all you want, don't ever, ever, talk bad about pork chops.

The nitpicks I've had grew every episode. Mostly the stomach ulcer acting, literally near every single person is channeling stomach ulcers as inspiration. I'll dodge rocks on this one, the amount of drawn out speeches! Hope someone makes an andor speech edit featuring just the speeches so I don't have to re-watch to count them.

Lots of people made out of character Walking Dead type mistakes in this episode. Characters just walking openly at the funeral like Luthen knowing every single person is being watched by ISB, Dedra leaving the prisoner girl basically unguarded while going out to look for Andor, Mr stabby ISB undercover guy and how that went down, there are other nitpicks but hats off to the one single stormtrooper that followed direct orders, alone, climbed to the top of the bell tower, then immediately got kicked out the window by the drummer. You know he had to stop at least twice to catch his breath.

Biggest nitpick on this episode, how Andor got back to Ferrix, then how he beat Luthen to his ship? Would have been a great time to introduce a mini rig for Andor. More toys. Luthen already has a do it all ship, why can't Andor have the mini rig equivalent? Surprise surprise it's Andor in disguise.

For the record, I never talked bad about pork chops, just compared them as 2 different meats. But I'd choose a Steak over a pork chop any day. I wasn't going to touch on the Finale, but your points are all good and I was thinking the same thing. How about that big guy headbutting the Storm Trooper ? Really? Why do Storm Troopers have Helmets on if it can't even protect you in the slightest? The bell tower? That's the biggest block of Beskar in the galaxy and the Mandalorians have no idea it's there...no word got out?

Ok, I have a theory about how Andor got back to Luthen's ship before he did:
There is only one explanation...Andor is Jason Voorhees. It's the only thing that makes sense. Have you ever seen a world class sprinter run in the opposite direction from Jason and yet somehow...somehow, after they stop running, he's already there? Maybe we'll find out in season two but we know he dies at the end of Rogue One anyways...but does Jason Voorhees ever really die? I don't think so. Lol

...and after just figuring out Luthen was trying to kill him while hiding from the empire and rescuing his friend and getting her to pegla's, he knew exactly where Luthen's ship would be? Luthen was already on his way back and had a pretty good head start i think, unless i'm messing up the timeline.

Not only are most steak cuts vastly better than pork chops (even when they’re done right which is seldom), they aren’t even the best part of the pig.

Pork belly is the food of the gods. Chinese roast pork belly is so crispy and flavorful. Chinese braised pork belly is incredible. Basic breakfast bacon to pancetta come from that belly, too.

Ever tried really good honey baked ham? (Not the cheap salty wet stuff). Really good honey baked ham will change your life.

Uncooked, cured ham in the form of prosciutto is lovely.

Guanciale from the cheek is used in wonderful carbonara or just on bread.

Pork chops is … meh … compared to all those cuts. And, if you dare to compare it to steak, then you’ve never had a perfectly cooked steak.

I think that the Rebellion was depicted, in '77 with a very large brush; no details, just wide strokes to establish who's who.
The Empire, with its known "WWII Germanic designs, was immediately recognized for what it was.
Now that the Rebels have been described in details in Andor, it's normal to root for them against oppression, fascism and the likes.

A few things/observation about the last episode:

Dedra can use her "Feminine whiles" to make Cyril her lap dog.
Andor is, obviously, traumatized by his Mother's death (and the damaged girl-friend) so, why not say good bye to the whole thing?
Luthen and Andor: they need each other but not necessarily for the same outcome.
Andor knew where Luthen's ship was, since this is not the first time he's parking it there.
It's not because you're wearing a helmet that you're protected from concussion forces and trauma (football players, anyone?)
ISB is still in the dark about Luthen. They haven't identify the King on the checker board.

Luthen is a pretty smart guy...he changes appearances etc, but he chose to park his ship right where the guy he's trying to kill knows where it is? He must have had a brain fart on grand scale then.

How many football players without helmets head butt other players who are wearing them? Come on, let's be honest here.

Luthen is by far the best character on this series....so why not have a show called Luthen instead of Andor. Way more intrigiuing in my opinion.

When you expect something that is described as and sold as very different to be the same you're going to be sorely disappointed. When I'm eating a pork chop, I know its a pork chop that's why I ordered it. If I wanted a steak I wouldn't bother with a pork chop as I know it's not going to be what I want. Thats part of the reason many who knew they weren't going to be into this series skipped watching it.

If everything had the same elements, the same beats, it would be boring as hell. Or worse when Disney tries to imitate the OT its a disaster. Speaking of boring, I agree this series was slow. Too slow in a few places but it still worked for me. Some don't like a slow burn as they don't have the patience. That's totally cool. Again this show was not designed to be for everyone nor was it designed or sold as being like the OT. Star Wars doesn't always have to be mass appeal.

I chose to "be patient and wait" til the show was over before commenting. "Patience" is not the issue and that is the only issue i would take up with you is on equating not liking a slow burn to patience...it's a false premise. Some elements of a story should be given more thought and time and some elements don't need to be exhausted. I felt the whole story took way to long unnecessarily, especially when you have a very obvious predicted outcome. As far as Star Wars being different, Imagine a series or movie called Scooby Doo "whatever"... People who love the original go to watch it because they love the original spirit of it about solving mysteries etc. Then you watch it waiting for it to materialize but in the end it was just a drama between each character and that Scooby became the fun loving, eating scaredycat because he was mistreated and under duress and in the end, never solved a single mystery...You would leave just shaking your head. The only difference for me is that Scooby Doo is way more intriguing of a character that Andor...he just doesn't interest me. I wanted to give the show a chance. I did. It wasn't for me and i can't call it Star Wars at all...it just isn't. My opinion. Glad everyone loved it. The acting was extroardinary, i was pleased with that atleast.

So, a buddy of mine said he watched the first episode and quit because it was boring. I told him to watch it again, it’s a slow burn and takes the first three episodes to get it rolling, but that it totally pays off in the end.

He then asked if I thought that Andor was better than The Mandalorian, to which I replied, “Yes.”

Honestly, i feel like i'm on a different planet. I faithfully watched it the whole way without expressing my opinion throughout...in some ways, it is better than Mandalorian but to me, Mandalorian feels more like Star Wars. Most of you all commented throughout...which i did read ALL of your comments. I didn't like it, period. Not for me. Pays off in the end? What paid off? The Finale, in my opinion was one of the worst episodes of the series. Like usually, tried to tie up loose ends and it was sloppy. The whole series had some cool elements, some Stormtroopers and Tie fighters but just because it has those things doesn't make it Star Wars. Then the post credit scene was like the Smurfs watching a giant Smurfberry grow. "OOOHHH...AAAHHH" The Death Star!! Like we never figured that the trajectory was heading there? Well, thank God they put the Death Star in...it must be Star Wars. This show was boring...the last episode was better than the finale.

Ask your buddy if he plans on sleeping through the first three episodes all over again repeatedly just to get to a payoff that is what? Andor runs faster than a speeding speeder and beats Luthen to his own ship? What's the cliffhanger here? Will Andor make it? Of course he will, until he gets toasted anyway by being forced to create droids that end up building the Death Star that destroys him anyway. I guess you'll have to sit through Mon Mothma's daughters' wedding and drama in the high society to get there, Like there is so much going on it completely distracts from Andor himself, which is fine with me to some extent. Of course they were going to pair him with Luthen...they'd be stupid not to. He's way more interesting. I would much rather watch a sidestory on him. But, to go from super serious tones, then watching the OT, it doesn't jive. I thought the same thing for Rogue One. Thought it was a good independent movie but apart from the Darth Vader scene and a deepfake Leia was very boring and didn't feel like Star Wars. Glad you like the series. Have fun in season 2.

I was super impressed with the cast and acting...i mean it's probably one of the best in that regard with the current stuff we've received. I was hoping for a Garsa Fwip appearance so i'm a little sour...lol
