I had the same "backordered" notice when I checked my account on the Trek website. They said that is incorrect and that I will get a tracking number today or tomorrow. Call them and check, as this is a common complaint today.

Call and complain, if they can't deliver hit up thinkgeek and see if they can get something to you sooner.

Spoke with Trek.com customer service. Apparently, a number of people received the backorder update who weren't necessarily on backorder.
I was told, if your order was processed yesterday, you'll be shipping in the next day or so. If your order wasn't processed prior to yesterday, you're on backorder. The next logical question: How do you know what's up? You can call and ask or wait and see if you get a shipping confirmation. I'm told I should receive shipping confirmation any time.
So, I wait. Ever vigilant for confirmation. If you get the same notification, I suggest calling rather than wondering and waiting. They don't seem to have it together over there. I was actually going to cancel and just track one down elsewhere.

I'm just gonna leave it. Doesn't bother me. It's a $150 working communicator, and that's such an incredible thing to me that the FCC badge seems like a really trivial thing by comparison. There's one on my phone, and I never really think about it.

Besides, how do we know that's not what a real Starfleet communicator would look like before the velcro goes on? We've never seen one on the show without the velcro, right?

Of course we know it's a 150.00 working communicator. BUT, just like the phaser, it won't stop some of us from wringing out every last drop of accuracy there is to be had. It's part of the fun. I guarantee if someone can come up with a 0.004 textured, laser cut "something" to drop in that recess, there will be a line for it.
