Star Trek: The Next Generation Hypospray and Medical Scanner from Factory Entertainment

I believe they are producing mass produced prop replicas. For toys you could spend your time collecting playmates or hasbro replicas. Are they 100 % accurate nope but they a close. A lot of builders here have built superior prop replicas. Some have taken toys like the new Ghostbusters line and added real parts to and modified them to look more accurate. I appreciate the efforts that a company makes to actually deliver on time. Your mileage may vary

Mine has shipped as well Sean. I am looking forward to it. Factory Entertainment is becoming a rare prop replica company that actually delivers. GC
Agreed! I have a handful of their pieces now, and it’s refreshing to have a licensee not taking money and running…
The question is: What are they delivering? Toys or accurate replicas?
From the FE pieces I have, they are definitely not toys. How accurate their replicas are can be a subject of much debate.

The MIB stuff I have from them is great! They look accurate. Have great functionality (although I wish the J2 pistol had a rotating barrel).

I’ve been waiting a long time for someone to do licensed TNG props, so I was really excited when FE started with them. While I would have preferred a cobra head phaser or Mark VII tricorder, I support FE tackling some more unique pieces like the Ressikan flute, the med kit, and the Borg Queen skull.

Although I do still hope that phaser and tricorder are in the works!

So I received mine today!!!! However as a preorder customer I was greeted with this email this morning.

"Dear Factory Entertainment Customer,

Thank you or your purchase of our Star Trek TNG Medical Set prop replica.

It has come to our attention that a small number of customers have received display boxes on which the clear window has been damaged by the hypospray coming loose in transit. The replicas themselves are unaffected but we ask that, if you have not done so yet, you please open your replica and check that there is no damage to your display box.

If you discover that your display box has been damaged, please notify support@factoryent.com as soon as possible, attaching picture of the damage, and we will arrange a replacement of the box.

If you've already reached out to us regarding your order, please disregard this message, as our team is already working to assist you.

Best regards,
The Factory Entertainment Team"

So I opened mine immediately to inspect of course. No damages but here are the pics. The outer shipper is a small brown box. No art work but the number on the side of the box is in felt pen as always with factory entwrtainment and I was surprised that the plaque inside is an actual stamped number. (Pictured)

When you open the box the prop box is in a plastic bag with a warning label to look for some pieces in the foam so you dont toss them aside. The three vials are contained in that styrofoam (pictured)

The outer box artwork is identical to the flute artwork and goes completely around the box. The prop box is in the correct medical blue and matches the plaque holders and base stands for the old master replicas props sold back in the day. The color is pretty darn close and the display is a 10/10 IMHO

The Trifold brochure lists a little about the props and the care and handling and the procedures for battery replacement in the STTNG LCARS style. The vials are held in with magnets. The magnets appear to be sufficient but a little on the week side. While I was not asking for rare earth magnets when you place them in there you will understand what I am talking about. 9/10 IMHO

The hypo is undersized but done fairly well with nice paint, no visible screws. I do not like the seam line below the upper barrel of the metallic portion however it actually represents the foil tape that was indeed used throughout the series and in DS9 Etc. Both buttons on the head Hiss differently and flawlessly. It has a nice heft to it as well. 6/10 IMO

The scanner Red LED blinks and makes the prop make the correct scanner noise. However, the scanner does not have the sequencing green LEDs As Jamie (renaissance man) pointed out....Just the single red LED Would have been correct 7/10 IMHO. I would have rated it a little lower but sound is included so it's a solid 7 in my mind but they missed the mark on the non sequencing LEDs. However renaissance man called it. They split the middle on the design. The aluminum latter scanner scanner actually is the prop that should have had those sequencing LEDs. The correct prop would have had just a single red LED. If they had blocked those LED ports it would have indeed been more accurate However now you see the Red LED bleed outside the holes where sequencing lights COULD have been. Since the LED cutouts where there I would have added the green LEDs HOWEVER it still would have not been correct.

Overall assessment. I am happy. A solid prop which should be considered for your Star Fleet storage locker. Beautiful presentation case, some surprises, very few disappointments and at a price point that I feel was fair, delivered on time and on target. LLAP!!!!!

Additional assessment. A solid that is the way it should done.... a pure example of what RIGHT looks like !!!!! Hey customer....we have been made aware of a potential problem. Please inspect everything and let us know if there is any damage so we can take care of you ASAP. What a concept folks. A prop vendor that I will CONTINUE to buy from because customer support is about taking care of the customer. 11/10 IMHO. GC

It looks like the hand scanner is based off of the TNG Season 1/2 design which did not have the green LEDs, but did have the red central LED and the outer "openings" blocked off. (Photo from Memory Alpha)

Great write-up and review!

Maybe they went for the earlier seasons’ version of the props…? That would certainly explain the medical scanner, but does anyone have any insight as to whether earlier hypos were that small?

Mine is coming today, so look forward to checking it out first-hand!

I've heard a recording of this Hand Scanner replica's sound posted on another forum and unfortunately it isn't accurate, sadly the hypospray sound wasn't 100% accurate either.
It's a shame given the price that FE are charging that they aren't getting these details right.

I hope they get the cricket phaser sound right. I ordered 2 of those suckers.

I did as well. The LE and the EE. We have already seen the split line for the two halves but it won't be 100% either

Correct but they did not block off the openings so the red light from the red LED can be seen from side of the scanner. My view well if you have the cutouts finish it with the sequencing green LEDs but that would not been right either.

Sean no clue it appears small but maybe it just looks bigger in Dr Crusher hand lol. It would nice to see one of these next to a production example. From my view it's better than oversized sabers to allow for the electronics that the mouse is putting out. Reguardless I think these will be a sell out. Once they hit Ebay we all know what will happen.

Truth be told I am really waiting on the Borg Queen skull Signature Edition.....GC

Wow, that's a huge difference, I wonder how they arrived at their dimensions.

The hypospray is WAAAAY undersized.

Two from Production on the LEFT, Factory Entertainment on the RIGHT.

In addition, the shape of the head is off.

Thanks for the great photo comparison!

Curious how FE could have gotten the dimensions so wrong… Didn‘t they say they were given access to the props from the CBS archives or something…?

Has anyone reached out to them directly?

Sean
