Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Guess I'm back to watching SNW in the closet.

I don't care about the scientific accuracy if it's occasionally fun! With all it's weaknesses, SNW is a breath of fresh air after Discovery. They earned my respect by having the guts to show that Kirk was a better captain for handling "Balance of Terror" Romulans than Pike could ever be, and that Spock was more important to the future than Pike will ever be. That's love for your legacy.

No, I am sorry, I am attempting to have a real conversation about how absurd that trailer is and we devolve back to the one and only questionable trait. So let's focus for a moment on the morphic changes that rearrange their tissue. No. You could change every cell to be a vulcan cell but the organization of existing tissue would not change without considerable amounts of time and then maybe never. It is why plastic surgery is permanent. This is not free for room to move as a literary form of creativity. It just doesn't work. Transporter accident, yep, serum, nope. Next, now we know how to use vulcan weapons? Next, what happened to all the iron in the blood that is now copper.... also transporter yes, serum, no. At this point they would all die. Having now changed their cells to become vulcan and not having the copper necessary to fulfill the needed blood quantities, they would instantly suffocate. It simply doesn't work on any level at all. Could have been transporter, could have been disguises and could have been mind melds transferring the actual training, techniques, emotions and experiences but we got handed Freaky Friday & Face Off, Vulcan style. I get suspension of disbelief, myth, legend, coincidence but taking a fully science and physics based show and just running with "wouldn't it be cool if" and just going with whatever comes to mind? This writing has the very distinct feel of Alex Rodriguez who had his children coming up with his storylines. Think Spy Kids and Shark Boy and Lava Girl. I loved both but they weren't Star Trek, they were extreme dreamlike stories. I just now remembered why I had stopped watching this thread. My apologies, carry on.

Seriously though: I agree with you on all counts here.

We love fun. It’s stupidly that we hate.

No, we hate dumb. :p

I was waiting for those responses...

Well then, I can think of several TOS, TNG, DS9, and VOY episodes that you hate too, right? Such as "Spock's Brain", "Move Along Home", "Tuvix", "Threshold", "Angel One"...need I continue?

I don't think a dumb episode or two should indict a show that loves its legacy as much as SNW does, especially when we have atrocities like Discovery and Into Darkness and Picard (S1 & S2) actively trying to redefine the very essence of what Star Trek is.

Yep, they were dumb. But that’s 3 episodes out of 79. SNW is averaging about 35% right now. But of all the Paramount Puss Treks, it’s the most fun to watch.

I could totally see this happening.

If we were really intent on a good laugh, there should have been a red shirt lagging slowly behind them in the "vulcan dress party away team" scene with the knowing look of "dead man walking".

The makers of SNW do not love Treks legacy. In fact they don’t understand what Trek is beyond the superficial.

They ignore canon.

They’ve turned Spock into Sheldon.

They turned the Gorn into Alien.

Chapel is nothing like the Chapel we know. Why bother calling her Chapel if the character has been changed to such an extent as to be someone else?

The musical… ugh.
A cross over with a cartoon… ugh.

The show is over designed. The ONLY thing that looks functional is when they base something on a past design. The designers don’t even try to make things look functional. They just want them to be big, bright and cool.

It’s better than Discovery is a pretty low bar for any Trek show.

The people making Trek today are not invested in Star Trek. They are simply making a tv show. That’s all. They play lip service to the past without understanding any of it. There is no visionary in charge. Just people earning their paycheck.
