Star Trek Geological Tricorder Build

I wonder if that glob on the back of the middle compartment door has an even simpler explanation.
Could be something sticky ( like black adhesive caulking or even black painted or just black (licorice flavoured ) chewing gum ( that is what thst really looks like, chewing gum ), that just got stuck to the backside of the compartment door snd lines up enough and sticks to that middle dividing bar that divides that inside of the middle compartment between the lighted panel and other device!
That door only needed to stay shut when the prop was being used and carried, by the actor, or when a front view of that paticular tricorder prop was being filmed, with its door shut.

BTW,
A very well done and VERY professional looking build and assembly of this ST-TOS geological tricorder!
I envy your skills/skillset!
I have ZERO skills to machine, build and assemble any ST hand prop, with all these materials, in this fashion/manner!
I am just “blown away” with how professional and great, this TOS tricorder build looks!
Just “blown away”!
Fantastic and Marvelous job, on this prop replica!
This is an excellent example replica of the ST-TOS geologic tricorder!
You have an awesome skillset!
Huuuuge Kudos!

The tricorder builds, I used to build by hand, many years, ago, were all made of cut and sanded from solid wood ( pine, white ash or white maple ), bass or balsa wood, sheet styrene and some thick chipboard, as these were the ONLY materials I knew how to work with, to make a convincing looking replica ST-TOS prop.
Made about 8-9 of these over a 20 year period, when I was younger ( I am 62, now ).
Made a dozen small hand PHASER I and PHASER II pistols during those years, as well as, about a dozen, or so, TOS comms.
All out of solid woods, plastic and thick paperboard (chipboard).

So what is the accurate color of the 3 jewels on the faceplate? Is it simply all blue like the surviving Jein hero or is there really a hint of red like
what the screencaps suggest?

If the Geological ended up with the faceplate originally on the Jewelarama tricorder, the jewels look like BLUE, RED (in a gold/brass bezel), and GREEN to me...
