Star Trek: Season 3 “Leatherette” Tricorder Build

“And again, you are making claims about the Desilu prop shop that there is no way for you to know. You don’t know how much time they had to make tricorders.”
Watch this YouTube video.

The Desilu/Paramount prop department were given NO extra money and little, to no time, to produce any extra, frequently used props to build and paint to make filming schedules and explains the varying quality of all of the main, most screen used props on ST-TOS.
And these guys are making, again, very general statements that you are overly interpreting.

If you want accurate, fraud-free information, then this particular channel and these particular people are definitely not a reliable source. Not one blessed bit.

And Gurian’s collection is full of obvious fakes (just as his website is full of “borrowed” photos), but he can’t even entertain the possibility that he’s been bilked for thousands of dollars over and over again.

The common thread in all of this scammery and willful ignorance is ego, of course.

One final comment. You may be thinking about comments made by Bob Justman on the quality of the hero phasers. Those comments may be him mis remembering or perhaps just an exaggerated statement.
All the hero functions in the prop were made by the studio prop shop. Again, all Wah did was update the overall look.

My brain hurts. I’m going to bed.

There might be more about the quality of Mr. Chang's prop work versus the studios prop department efforts in Herb Solow's books, ”Thd Star Trek Sketchbook OR “Inside Star Trek.
Also, this maybe, also, mentioned in the videos, as well.
YouTube links below.

I have no idea what the time stamps are where Mr. Chang is mentioned, in these videos, but he and tge ST art/prop/property depeatrments are mention, in both videos.

If these people didn't have the money and needed time to build PHASERs, one would think they didn;t have the proper time or money to properly recreate and build the rest of the regularly used filming props, either!

Ya know what?
I think I just done here.
I am not a builder/maker, any longer. I am just a 62 old fan of a 55 year old, 3 ( possibly 5 season show, with TAS )season TV show.
No matter where in the ST forums I post a threads, I keep getting challenged on information that I know.
Like the rest of my life, I feel like a do not belong here or feel welcome here.
I have a passion and knowledge of this stuff, but I am being constantly challenged here and I am beginning to wonder/realise that is becsuse I am not a builder/maker, any longer.
First, was the Brad Nelson PHASER thread and other threads I thought I had a common interest in.
I don't come here to have my ST knowledge constantly challanged.
This is why I never signed up on any other Trek Websites, Facebook, X or Instagram!
I am done here.
Once I figure out how to delete my account, I am gone!
I will just view/ghost this place, but will post and comment, no longer.
You don’t know me and what I know, or don’t know.
And I don't know any of you and what you know, or do not know or what your expertise/experiences are, with ST props and prop building, either.
I have never built any ST props the way they were built by more professional and experienced model/prop makers.
I have always found my own ways and materials, I could build with, to build my ST hand props. I wish 3D printing had existed much sooner, as I may have kept building my own ST props, both for myself and to sell!
I just thought this would be a good place to hang out, from time to time, share some Trek prop and other knowlwdge, I have, and not be constantly called out on it.
I see my knowledge is either old or incorrect, by others here, and I feel like a iittle kid here.
I am totally soured on this site experience and I am done participating here.
Done. Goodbye!

Well,
Can't find how to delete my presense here.
So, I just won’t login/post ever again here!
Tired of all this is here.
Since I am not a builder/maker here, I am sure I won't be missed.
No one has posted any responses to my last posting here, anyways.
Goodbye!

No one is asking you to leave. You are more than welcome here.
This is not just a board of builders.
Perhaps no one responded because like me they were sleeping. We don’t live 24/7 on these boards.
You are being challenged because the information you are providing is incorrect or cannot be backed up.

This is important. You are the one making certain claims. It’s not my job to watch videos you posted or read thousands of pages to find evidence to back up your claims. That’s your job.

You seem to take the comments “they had no money or time” literally. They are not literal statements. They are speaking metaphorically. They did have money and they did have time. Just not as much money or time as they would have liked.

And for the last time. The studio built all the phasers. All… not some… not just these over here…all. Wah reworked the hero phasers to change details. We know this because we have copies of the memos.

Again, you seem to think that this is a place you should be able to say whatever you want and no one should challenge you. That’s not what this board has ever been about. If I get something wrong, and I sure have, I would expect to be corrected.

Who/m is this well known to, exactly?
This is new news to me!
First I am learning about this and I am a long-time TOS fan and fan of these props and prop replicas and done lots of online searches on these props, for the past two decades, and know of Mr Gurian and his various collections ( mostly his props collections and his film clips and slides colections ).
Who had his ST-TOS prop collection been inspected by, in the past, for being just prop replicas, instead of actual scren used props?
What “experts” did these inspections of his prop/prop replicas, for varification?
This is a rather strong statemeht to be making about someones ST collection? No?
Well have you ever heard of "Mark English"?

He (or rather a group of people that use that name) is a well known forger of Tricorders, Phasers and communicators that's being making forgeries since the early 70's

The one leatherette you posted is one of the more widely known about forgeries.

Given that you make such obvious errors in your posts you have clearly bought into a lot of the false information that's been spreading on the internet over the years.

I most certainly am not an expert, yet even I've learned how to spot fakes over the last 35 years I've been involved in the hobby.

Why are you taking all of this so personally?

I can assure you that you are more than welcome and that there's absolutely nothing wrong with learning the truth and letting your knowledge grow

Not to add to the massive derailment of this thread but after reading the last couple days of posts I would say "someone" wants to build "credibility" to sell some props. Just sayin'.... we have seen this to often in the past.

Just an observation from an uninterested casual observer.
