Star Trek Discovery Phaser by Anovos

Okay, someone educate me on this. Was Anovos charging / penalizing customers for cancellations of orders?

New rules there are NO refunds, not that they are giving any when requested

  • Fully-finished interactive replica, with 3D print construction just like the actual hero production pieces were for production of STAR TREK[emoji769] DISCOVERY
  • .
If you are only expected to use the phaser for cosplay, for just display or advance your hobby and skill set (not looking for totally accuracy), for the price you could almost buy your own ENDER 3 open frame printer and have the experience of printing your own (as many as you'd like), assemble and paint.

Here is a link to an unboxing on youtube:

I still can't believe this thing is $500. No trigger electronics even. Wow.

I thought that was only for certain states that had firearm replica issues but I'm probably wrong.

Nope. That was what they planned to do but they eventually scrapped it completely. They said it was because of the toy gun laws around the country but a lot of people thought it had more to do with the lack of interest for any STD props.

Yup, none of this looks good.

Not really a good thing for Prop replicas sellers as well. Disney in the past asked for all licensing fees upfront, which made it almost impossible to make a Disney prop unless the company had a huge reserve to begin with. Most companies don't, certainly smaller prop companies could not do this, Master Replicas being the first to break that barrier.
With the studios being lumped into this suit, they will most likely institute harsher and higher costing fees and licensing conditions for any future prop licenses.
It is good though to see someone finally going after ANOVOS. Their latest public relations communications was a huge failure and I am sure helped towards the impetus for this lawsuit.

I love the product I did get from Anovos, hate that the wait for items is beyond any reason of patience. Having been burned, not really feeling too bad about this though, have to say it's a long time coming for a company like this.

Anovos deserves this. The have demonstrated time and again utter disdain for their customers. At every chance they try to weasel their way out of the problems they've created for themselves. The far reaching consequences of this on prop making and selling remains to be see, I have a feeling the bigger license holders will simply NOT work with smaller companies like this ever again.

Indeed. That's the ripple effect and I suspect we'll see just that!

It's a real shame, Anovos never got that their business was production of props. They always seemed to be more interested in promotion of their name brand and the licenses they had. If they had focused a few props designed for mass production and given realistic timelines and priced for a wider audience they would be the greatest company out there.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen! How many outstanding orders and customers waiting 2 years or more??? lets just ship 2 days a week???????????????

I get that’s what you’re really here for, so let’s get down to it.
Starting a few weeks ago, you will have seen a definitive increase in fulfillment after we’ve allocated proper resources to that division. The reason being is that we are catching up on the backlog, not only of in-stock products, but also of long-awaited product (such as the Rey Jakku Ensembles and Star Trek: Discovery Hand Phasers).

That said, we are going to readjust expectations to the following:
  1. We will only be shipping on Mondays and Wednesdays. (Unless there’s a holiday that falls on either of those days, then those days will shift to the next available business day, e.g. Tuesday and Thursday.)

  2. We are working towards recommitting that domestic in-stock shipments will take 10 to 14 business days to process.

Isn't the founder of Anovos a member here? He used to come on the RPF pimping his wares and tooting his horn about how great his company was.
Where is he now? Playing an ostrich I imagine. Hopefully a banning is on the way.

I don't believe a licensor is responsible for the products promised by a licensee unless they have direct involvement/oversight in the product. If the party, such as Anovos, is operating with autonomy, then the licensor simply sold the right to use their logo/likeness/etc. and the involvement ends there.

That being the case, I don't think a court would allow those parties to be held liable for Anovos' poor business practices. So I don't believe this case will do anything significant to affect those relationships. Consider how many licensees a company like Disney has for everything under the sun (Notebooks, pencils, backpacks, plushes, toys, games, etc.) Anovos is just one.

I can also understand, for this very reason, why companies like Disney are hesitant to allow licensed products without significant capital investment upfront.

Time will tell.
