Star Trek Beyond

So now there's a 'USS' Franklin reaching warp 4 before the NX-01 breaks warp 5, which is before the Federation? :confused
Also, why does it have its warp core in the middle of the saucer? Why did they have to double-down on the Enterprise being a giant? This makes that horrible section 31 ship what, bigger than a Borg cube? As big as a super star destroyer? Ugh, I say, UGH!

Coming next from JJ a film called Kelvin, about Kelvin McKelvin, on the good ship Kelvin as he kelvins a megakelvin out of kelvinite :facepalm

At this point JJ is just giving fans the middle finger because he knows he can, Bay does it with his choices in movies now and they both seem to like alienating fans in hopes of getting new ones. I've said it before and I'll say it again JJ Abrams shouldn't be directing anything other than commercials for hemorrhoid creams.

I doubt Abrams had anything to do with the whole "kelvin pods" thing. I actually doubt he had a whole lot of fine-detail input in Beyond at all, when taking into account that he's been occupied with Star Wars.

I feel like a terrible person for hoping this means no more nu-trek... but it's not like they gave Chekhov much to do other than be a weird mix of (more racist than the 60's) stereotype crossed with Wesley Crusher.
I'll have to go watch a movie he was good in.

Define your version of racist ????

Yeah, I wasn't going to go there but, since you brought it up, it's really more nationalist than racist--they're making him the butt of the jokes because he's Russian, not because he's Caucasian. Sadly, that seems to be almost all they can come up with for poor Pavel, but I suppose they set the precedence in Star Trek IV with the "nuclear wessels" gag.

Sorry to nit-pick sick of people using racist card to beat people over the head>

RIP Anton :(

I too feel this is the perfect time to scrap JJTrek and get back to the real Trek 'verse and continue off where Voyager ended, and some 15-20 some years later.

I personally always loved that bit, that and the whole "a double dumb*behind/donkey* on you too" :lol

"Stereotyping" not being racist. Stereotyping is in my opinion less than "good" but a hell of a lot better than racism.

They renamed escape pods Kelvin pods? Oh, JJ. I know you want to cement your mark on whatever series you work on, but this is contrived. They're escape pods. They don't need to be renamed. Real world Airlines didn't rename their reinforced cockpit doors "United 93 doors".

It looks to me like only the escape pod accessed from the bridge is called the Kelvin pod, because it's designed to be used in a situation like the Kelvin where the Captain has to say till the last second. Other pods on the diagram are still labeled "escape pods".

Seriously? You're going to argue the semantics of my usage of 'racist'? At least we can all agree the character has been badly treated. I mean, he was originally included with the noble idea of showing that "Today's enemy (60's Soviet Russia) could be tomorrow's friend)'. And indeed he got some good moments in TOS, able to switch from tactical to science stations for example. But the inclusion of 'laugh at how the computer can't understand his accent' (even though it manages alien languages) in nu-Trek was just stupid.

Well when you phrase it like that it's actually an intelligent name. It shows that Starfleet learn from its mistakes

Not that I'd like a sad situation like this to get us there, but it would be nice, considering not too many die hard fans like this universe...

but if what i heard about simon peggs beyond script is true, i somehow doubt it.

supposedly peggs script was deemed 'too star treky' and they made him dial it back more so the general masses can handle it.
and also he apparently didn't like how they billed it in the trailer.

While Anton nailed the Chekov accent perfectly (considering I think he was russian, or spent time there at least).....he was my least favorite new cast member because of how young he looked. if all the other cast members looked 22, he came off as 15. it totally threw me off the part. although that might have been intentional if they where playing off the generations line 'I was never that young'

still, terrible way to go...i'm still having trouble wondering how he didn't have time to move away from the car. it must have been right next to him. ugh.

I think it was said he had a steep driveway and likely didn't hear the car rolling down the hill towards him.

I will admit, I was hesitant to suggest the end of the Abrams Trek because of the death of the actor who played Chekov, but I agree that it's probably the best idea.

Does anyone know when BEYOND merchandise hits the stores ??? Ive been waiting to raid my local target,

The two websites I use for merchandise news are TheTrekCollective.com and TrekMovie.com.

Sadly, I don't think Star Trek Beyond will be getting much of a toy line. At least not one that will fill whole shelves at places like Target. Trek09 was kind of a merchandise disaster when it was released. All the male crew figures were basically the same mold with different colored shirts and heads, and the toy sets made for the figures came incomplete and the parts needed to complete the set were never released. Star Trek Into Darkness didn't fair much better and that was a much more limited. Best we can hope for are the Hot Wheels toys of the starships (Which are surprisingly decent) and maybe some Mega Block sets.
