"Star Trek" used to be an intellectual pursuit, with some action scattered here and there. Now, they jump straight to action set pieces.
Think of Star Trek 2/The Wrath of Khan, versus the JJ Abrams "Into Darkness", which tried to retell the story. With Khan and Spock in hand-to-hand combat. On a speeder. Through San Francisco.
Is it safe to say Mike isn't a fan of the latest piece of Kurtzman Con-tent?
Yes. Be productive.Tapped out after about 20 min. My time is far too valuable to waster on this utter dreck! I rather do something far more enjoyable like laundry, or watch some paint dry.
That guy has gone to Marvel to make the Vision TV series.I’m about 40 mins in
WHAT AM I WATCHING!?
I hate complaining about movies… but this is mind blowing bad…
Who made Picard season 3?! What’s he doing? Cuz pay him a buttload of cash and show whoever made this, the door.
I find it interesting that Variety and Vulture have posted no review whatsoever...
Interesting, but not surprising.
What a steaming pile of ____ that was! How did they even get approved to film this?
The main problem with season one of TNG was Roddenberry. He was running things...into the ground. The problem with SNW (as I see it) is they're trying to emulate the original series, but in doing so, they're mainly emulating the goofier aspects of the show. The show was made in the 1960s, when writing, acting, and esthetics were all different. It's why season one of TNG is widely considered the worst: they tried to copy the original series too much. It wasn't until they settled into their own style that it became great. And even that series doesn't always hold up when you look back on it - there's nitpicks to be made, cultural differences and scientific advancements that are different now than then.
With Discovery, they tried too hard to make it like the popular genre shows of the time (Game of Thones especially). SNW did an about face and tries to make something that looks and sounds like TOS, but with a modern sheen. It largely fails at that, for me. They can't capture the fundamental story and characters of the original. They also can't resist interjecting more modern dialog and interactions, while still attempting to emulate the 1960s show. So instead of creating something more timeless, it becomes immediately dated.
