Star Trek Beyond

I got my picture taken with the real Captain Kirk today at MegaCon, so I'll be cool with this for a couple weeks.

I think Chris Pine could be a good Kirk if the scripts were better.
I agree. They've shown that Pine's Kirk is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed in the mission, but they haven't shown any real leadership qualities that would make the crew want to follow his orders without questioning them.

Why should Pine's Kirk be the same as Shatner's? His Kirk is from another time line. He grew up without a father. How can he be a good leader, if he never had someone who led him?

He should have had leadership training in the academy. I assume the Kobayashi Maru test was part of that training. Then he should have worked his way up through the ranks. The only ship New Kirk should be in charge of is a supply ship.

Sad thing is, there's issues with game on Win 7 as well. It seems that it starts up and then promptly crashes.

Hey Riceball, if you are talking about Starfleet Command, I think you can try running starfleet.exe. I know that helps with SFC2 and Orion Pirates. It will bypass the movies and just start the game.

The real question should be this: If he's not a good leader (and so far he really hasn't proven to be), why is he the Captain of the Enterprise? Apparently, this version of Starfleet hands out Senior Officer ranks like they're Halloween candy. :rolleyes

Just for the sake of clarity, I like Chris Pine and what he's done so far considering how little they've given him to work with. But I wouldn't follow his Kirk to a grocery store, let alone into battle.

Thanks for the tip, but until I see something on the GoG website mentioning that this definitely works I'm not going to buy the game again; even though it's pretty cheap I still don't want to waste money on a game that won't work.

I haven't read through this entire thread, BUT, I thought my Star Trek 50th Fan Event album photos would be more relevant, to some, now more-than-later. I have more photos, but I don't want to fill up my entire allowance with this event. Let me know if anyone wants more photos, and/or info, of the actual Star Trek Beyond props & costumes, etc...

Do you have any photos of the Organ Regen prop? I see it was on display in one of the cases. I would also be interested in any of the other small handheld props you might have captured. Thank you.

They renamed escape pods Kelvin pods? Oh, JJ. I know you want to cement your mark on whatever series you work on, but this is contrived. They're escape pods. They don't need to be renamed. Real world Airlines didn't rename their reinforced cockpit doors "United 93 doors".

And it's not just the indulgence factor either. The best way Star Trek honors a ship is by naming future ships after it. If the Kelvin represents such a monumental piece of Starfleet history that they name libraries and generic escape pods after it, why not just rename the Enterprise the Kelvin (NCC-0514-A)? It would make more figurative sense for the ship that Kirk commands to be named after the ship his father was briefly the Captain of. There's no reason for the Enterprise name anymore.

Looking over that lay out. I hate it even more

I wonder what the Nu 1701-A will look like ?
