Spacetrooper Backpack- Found !! New pics added

Good news. T'bone is going to put me in touch with the owner of these behind the scenes photos.

That's great - if you get high res scans, it would be great if you could share them...(I wonder if the owner will be cool with that?)

I gotta say with all the action figures LFL has pumped out over the years it suprises me that these guys fell through the cracks.

good work kurtyboy.

i was going to contact him if you couldnt, i used to talk to him back in the PM AOTC days, and back when i was a mod at the N-HS, (if you dont know dont ask, or ill have to kill you)

and ive never seen that pic either WTF?

doesnt show us the pack, but that is different than the other joe johnston pic thats been around for years... and was believed to BE THE ONLY ONE...

hell yeah, we might find this out after all... :love

hey guys this is my next project right here, once I am done with my Commander Bacara. I wonder if the 2 new pics are going to be in that new Making of S.W. book due out before CIV. It would be interesting to see if anymore mystery pics appear in that book. I actually know someone who knows Joe Johnston personally, I had them get him to sign my ESB DVD almost 2 years ago. I might be able to get some addtional info. I am not a "starstruck" type, so I aint gonna nuts trying. If I can get the info, great, :love if not, so be it. :unsure

Without fully reading the entire thread post for post, I beleive that "hose" that comes over from the back to the front (which ultimatly goes under and inside the helmet) appears to be a washing machine hook-up hose. I am going to look for everytype of washing machine hose possible online, to see if it actually pops up somewhere. I know it was 30 years ago, and I can't imagine too much change in design in what amounts to be, well, a washing machine hose? God this is so mind boggling. :confused

just to help you out a little here, im assuming this would have been made in the UK, so looking back 30yrs ago the top make around at the time and probably the only make of washing machine would have been the manufacturer HOOVER

Hope that helps :)

Hoover, got it. I know I am smoking crack on this but what the heck. It would be cool to finally obtain a found part after years mystery, even it's just the hose. HA.

My post a page or back more or less says this.

(From AA at SDS) He believes those parts were made from camping Gaz cannisters, toilet internals and Hoover washing machine machine hose but thinks that that hose is probably a bit more industrial than that.
He was checking for photos for me but I need to quiz him again.

If he was invloved I have no idea but he seems to remember something about them and that the suit is no different and was shot after Tunisia

Well I did get in touch with the person who was believed to be the owner of that picture. However, he never got back to me so I can only assume he doesn't want to help.

Then how do you know you got in touch with him? Not trying to be a smart-a##, just curious. You emailed him and he never replied?

Forgive my poor drawing skills but using all the images I have off this baby (same as all you have, don't worry ;) ) I've come up with this

Now then. What I want to know is what we agree on it's shape.

The backstage shot of the long armed dude with no lid provides with details on the cannisters and our left hand side of the piece. We have a good deal of enhanced rear profile shots but none of the right.

I own a little vac former and have sourced similar looking bottles am going to have a stab at this.
Before I do I'd like us to agreee on the shape of lower part. (the part that's below the 2 bottles)

Is it A B or C.
I think it's A as it seems to taper toward the right

1. T'bone gave him my email address
2. He emailed me
3. I sent him our request.
4. He never replied.

Darn. Maybe he just got busy. I'd wait a while and then give him one more hint. Couldn't hurt.

I think we should call this the Johnston Trooper in honor of the long armed guy in the pics, Joe Johnston. Did you know he directed Jurassic Park III and is set to direct JP IV?

I think the tank on top and the angle of the photo gives the illusion of taper on the bottom cylinder. I don't know if you see the hump as being distinct, or that's just how you cut the shape out. I traced in blue what I see:

P.S. I didn't account for the second upright tank because I couldn't make out enough of it to trace.

The more i look at the hose the more im not convinced it was a washing machine Hose but infact a Gas Cooker Hose.

These would have been a lot more ridgid than a washing machine hose and were also readily available in the UK at this time. The SpacePack hose looks very ridgid like that of a cooker hose

The picture below shows the Hose available today and i know that they havent changed all that much in 30yrs........... also note the fitment on the end of the hose to that of the one on the Trooper Spacepack very similar IMHO the fittings came in a variety of angles, You wont find that fitting on any washing machine hose.
