Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club (PIC HEAVY!)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Play it your way, me ol'son play it your way.....

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

What I mean is, it's your model......Do what feels right for you.
For me, this is the solution to the windows issue that works for me.

Of course! I'm not bashing your way! I even thought for a moment about making a miniature tv camera and placing it outside the cm pointing inwards...problem solved! :lol

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

My build time for the next couple of days will be minimal at best. Tonight, maybe a little. Tomorrow, definitely not as I won't be home. Sunday, if the weather forecast holds and we get a day of much-needed rain, I hope to spend some quality time building while listening to the pitter-patter of raindrops!
Next up, I'm going to do what I should have done before: finish up all the remaining eagle interior doors. Here's the very beginning of that:

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Hi All! Here is a little update. :)
Well I have been working on the CM and the forward walkway, which joins the CM to the Passenger Pod. It's coming along well, if slowly...:unsure
The forward walkway is featured very little in the series, apart from the episode, The Full Circle, where a scene takes place that allows us a good look around that section. As always, I have tried to stay as accurate to the TV Set as possible. The port and starboard halves of the forward walkway are a mirror image of each other so, if you know the layout of one side, it can be reversed for the other side, which is exactly what I am doing.
As you can see in the picture below, the walls have large panels of frosted white perspex with a large numbered orange circle on them. These panels have been backlit, as has the panel behind the shelf alcove, just to the left of that large panel.

To achieve the same effect, I have cut and fitted a thin piece of transparent plastic, backed with white paper. this diffuses the light rather well. Behind that plastic panel are 4 LED's, which shine into an aluminium foil lined box which bounces the light around more evenly. I will apply exactly the same procedure to the other light panels. The blue white that you are seeing is not a true representation of how it looks. It's just how my Phone camera seems to record it for some reason.
Here are some pictures to show the current 'state of play.'

At this stage, I have not yet cut the large panels out. That will be my next task before I test fit both sides together.
Thanks For Looking in and I hope you like the progress. I should have a bigger update later today for you all! :)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 15/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Hello again! Here's the second update as promised. :)

I have managed to construct the unit that sits on the other side of the forward walkway and here are the results:
Fist a rare picture of the forward walkway:

And here is my copy, not yet fully constructed, of course!:)

I have also addressed the issue of the sliding doors in the walkways, by reducing the doorsize to just 2mm per side larger than the apertures they fill. This has drastically reduced the size of the pockets into which they will slide. They no longer protrude through the cage framework, which I am happy about! :)
20120420_181135.jpg

I aknowledge that my walkways are wider than the originals, but as a result, the inside is accurate and the doors function. There is still the room necessary for the shelves on each side; I have merely used the gap between the walkway and the shelf to give more interior space.
In other areas, I have also built the door pocket on the CM. The overall impact is, I believe, minimal. Again, my door works, so I am happy. Thanks to Roberto Baldassari for the idea! Here's a picture.

There are, for me, certain iconic views of the inside of the Eagle and to get to a stage where the build allows that view to be recreated is, in part, what this is all about. Here is such a view and a picture of how close I am getting to recreating it.

all in all, I think the level of accuracy is acceptable.

Here's the same shot but from the other way, looking into the Cockpit.

So, overall, I have, as expected lots of little outstanding jobs to do all over the place, including the front wall of the cockpit. It's blank at the moment but that didn't stop me taking her into orbit for a once around the equator :lol

I took some unusual shots of the interior sections when in situe. I thought I would post them here as, again, I think it is interesting to see the interior from this angle/perspective.

Well I hope that was of interest to you guys...:)
Here are a couple of pictures to finish this update off with. This is how the outside is shaping up.

Funny you should mention drywalling, as I was doing some of that just earlier today!

Darren, that build of yours is looking just great! I don't know what else to say other than...just keep going!!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 21/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Thanks, Bob! I do feel, however that I have enough sections started now that I need to reign myself in a little and concentrate a little more on finishing them. Or at least moving them forward before moving on to yet more areas. I found myself last night working on the suspension of all things!!! Building the fitted storage areas is fun......possibly the best part for me. Building miniature interiors etc gives me a huge sense of satisfaction! The problem is that it doesn't get the spine and cages finished and that is a hard slog....I know I am avoiding it!
I managed to fit the 'perspex panels in the forward walkway - the ones with the Eagle number on a big orange disc. They look great!
I am getting a pretty good response on the ETF, too which is nice. The Aministrator suggested turning my Eagle into a cut away, like yours, but I'm not sure how or if I will go down that road. I need to source some beige paint for the interior, too. I don't want to mix it as I don't have the dyes etc, so I may use vinyl matt or silk wall paint if I can find an old pot somewhere.
How are things with you? I know you had a busy weekend so I guess you got very little done. Hope you have a relaxing Sunday, Mate!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 21/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

I can understand what you're saying there. I reluctantly started on the forward walkway, then once I did I was very soon thinking that this would be an opportunity to start on the forward landing legs! I finally opted just to make the interior door for now, then reign myself in just a bit before I end up everywhere. A large unfinished ship may seem more daunting to finish than smaller pieces of one!:eek

I was having similar thoughts about those interior walls. It looks like such a subtle color, yet..what to use? I've never had luck mixing paints either!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 21/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

I think any sort of darker tone of beige/sand/biscuit would be fine. The studio lighting makes it all but impossible to gauge the exact colour, anyway. Couple that with our earlier discussion about scale affecting colour tone and you would be in the right ballpark of confusion! :lol

I want a slightly lighter colour than the TV Set but not much, as I am able to get my phone camera right up close and personal. Then, of course, My lighting will be radically different to the lighting used on the TV Set so, again, that upsets the balance further....What to do....?

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 21/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

I'm beginning to believe that planning any day ahead of schedule is not just difficult, but an impossible dream.:unsure
Ah, well...at least I've gotten the main part of the holes in the doors cut out. I'll plug away at it some more tonight, if I make any major progress, I'll post those too.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 21/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Hi all! Just a little update, I'm afraid as we've had a family crisis to deal with thee last 24 hours....
I have made some progress with the front half of the forward walkway, and excluding the lighting, the fitted units are pretty much complete. I have, as always, tried to supply a photo from a similar angle to one taken of the original TV Set to enable you guys to make a more accurate assessment regarding the accuracy. Please do mention any discrepancies that I may have inadvertantly overlooked. :)
I still think that they look like vending machines! :lol
Anyway, here are the pics! Let me know what you think. :)

Family crises seem to be synonymous with 2012, don't they? I feel your pain, 'cause I'm living it here, too. It just won't end yet.

As for your pictures...hmm...
*looks*...*scratches chin thoughtfully*...hmm...
hmm..
Yep! Looks good to me!:cool
Darned good, actually!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 21/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Yup it looks really good. I'm sorry to hear you're having some family issues. I hope it's nothing serious.

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 21/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Thanks, Guys! Just the Step-son being a C*ck...Fighting etc... Kids, Huh!? :lol

I think the model is progressing but I need Bob to pick some holes....bring me back to earth a little! :lol

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 21/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

Well, if it's any help to you, Darren, I looked at your pictures again...and I've decided you need to discontinue this Eagle and start from over. Be of good cheer, though: think how good your second one will come out! Glad I could help!:lol

Update: Sanding, cutting, sanding, some more cutting...one by one the doors are taking shape.
View attachment 91952View attachment 91953
After getting the 'teardrop' shapes about right, i beveled the edges and sanded them smooth. Reasonably smooth, anyway!
View attachment 91954
There is some minor tweaking, but that can wait until I assemble the finished units. Since Darren's starting his Eagle over, I've got time!:cool

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATED 21/04 (PIC HEAVY!)

That must be a great feeling to nearly have all that behind you..... How many door sides do you need to do in total? 12? I still have six to do.....:cry
