Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club (PIC HEAVY!)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 21/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Kind of dark and somewhat rainy here..which helps!
I've got some paint drying, after which I'll snap some pics and post an update..I refuse to let today go without some progress!!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

I wish I lived in the same neighbourhood as other modellers...it'd be fantastic to meet up with some like minded folk over a few beers and talk model making...:unsure

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 21/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Surely, weight and volume depend totalyl on the materials/elements contained therein and the force of gravity acting upon them? Just my take on it...:$

Yes, the density of matter within a volume determines weight. Nevertheless, what I said holds: the scale relationship for weight is cubic.

If it helps you, picture a box, and also a 1/2 scale model of that box -- 1/2 as tall, 1/2 as wide, 1/2 as deep. You could put 8 of the scale model inside the original box. So a 1/2 scale model would have an ideal weight of 1/(2^3), or 1/8 of the weight of the original.

Beautifully explained, Deck5! And of course, you are right. I am sure that you 'got' that my double reply to your first posting was very tongue in cheek and no offence was meant at all. That's not how we work here :) you obviously know your stuff and it's great to learn :)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Would be nice...I've never actually known any other modelers here. :confused

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Well, you and Chris should DEFFO meet up!!! Have a beer for me! ;)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

I'm just slightly ahead of you.....I'm drinking a beer right now as we speak!:cool

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

LOL, we ARE an hour away! That's so funny.... :cool

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

I finally finished painting all the little pieces for the back wall. Unfortunately my camera batteries kicked the bucket about here, so there are no pictures of assembly or of building up the thickness of the door frame, but I think we can all live useful, happy lives even without them. But I did replace the batteries in time to get a picture of the attached door from the back. This recessed door should provide a nice illusion of depth for the wall, as though the door actually fits into a recessed pocket.

Now we're getting somewhere! Finally I can begin working on the rest of the cockpit. Double-checking the fit here, and everything appears to be good. Now, to plan...

I was at a friends' house, and he was unpacking some items he bought. Among the packaging trash there was a plastic piece which happened to be the size and contour of the side yellow panels, so I cut that section and brought it home to possibly use.

Note to Deck 5:
I neglected to thank you for your useful response! Much appreciated. I'm okay with geometry, but weights/measures/mass stuff always seemed to be beyond me. You should see me in the kitchen when I have to scale down a recipe!:eek

Now I can imagine myself calculating the scale weight of every miniature I own! lol:lol

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

That is stunning! :eek
That honestly looks like it was laser cut in a factory, such is the quality.....
That is going to be the best Eagle cockpit ever...

Oh, I don't know about that! I'm lucky it's cut with an exacto knife...I shudder to think what my fingers would look like if a laser were involved!
Also, hundreds of opportunities await for me to screw up, so this build could turn some ugly corners yet! But thanks for the encouraging words!:)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Mate, that makes me look at my cockpit with embarrassment...The finish of the card surface looks like crap compared to yours. I may have to redo mine...

Aw, don't do that! Remember, yours intimidated me at first when I saw it!
Yours also seems to capture the "feel" of the original that mine so far lacks. It's an unidentifiable quality, that "mood" thing: mine, even if it comes out as I hope it might, will always look like a miniature.

In other words, no it does not look like "crap"...I refuse to agree with you there!:behave

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

I guess I am just feeling a little jaded with it all today....I need to get my finger outta my butt and get moving. I may leave it until tomorrow.

Don't get jaded! At least, don't get jaded to the point you think of quitting!
I had a few jaded days so far, having what seemed like to many unforeseen problems, but I finally got to where I can continue.

It sounds to me like you need another one of these...:behave lol

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 25/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

:lol I'll be okay Mate, I need more aluminium tubing to carry on with the spine, so I will get that tomorrow. I think it's just the CM that's getting to me at the moment. I have this memorial concert to sing at this weekend and That is putting a lot of pressure on me, too. Trying to learn songwords and arrangements in time. So much to do and so little time in which to do it!!!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 26/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

You sing, as well? Wow, your life seems to contain a diversity of experience mine lacks! You wouldn't want me to sing...all those youtube singing dogs are far more harmonious than I!:wacko

Oh, and when Eagle time does come, remember... :behave
