Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club (PIC HEAVY!)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 15/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Aaaaah, I see!!! Somehow, I missed you saying that bit, although I am sure that you did at some point! Great idea!
I would suggest, though, maybe fashioning the cut away shell section out of clear plastic, so the cockpit doesn't slowly fill with a layer of dust because THAT would be a pig to clean!!!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 15/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

That is not a bad idea, at that! Otherwise, yeah: I'd need to build a glass display case!

(Ha, ha...I just had a mental picture of the pilot seats getting sucked up into the vacuum cleaner!)

Speak to you tomorrow, I am off back to bed! Have a great evening

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 15/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Small update: Year Three *sigh...*
Cutting and shaping more small parts for the back of the cockpit. Luckily I had a small enough drill bit to open up the center of the holes I needed to hollow out with the blade. Then, I trimmed and glued small pieces together to make the shapes and forms I needed. These pieces should be the worst I have to deal with in the cockpit, so I look forward to finishing these up.

I started to apply a little bit of paint (the beige, technically 'light peach'), to see if the color will be one that will work for me. So now that I've test-fitted everything, now I just have to do some final smoothing-out of the parts and paint the separate components and glue them together, hopefully before I sneeze or something and send the itty-bitty little pieces flying across the room, never to be seen again!

:eek :eek :eek

That looks Incredible! It's better every time I look at it! That CM of yours is going to be 'bitchin'.....I can see that you are putting in some long hours, and it really shows.

I am in the process now of preparing an update. I hope to post in the next half hour. :)

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 15/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Hi, Everyone! Sorry I haven't posted for a couple of days. I've not been well at all, but it hasn't stopped me working completely!

Okay, I have made some progress on the outer shell of the CM. It is now smooth and even enough that I have been able to start the shuttering. By tacking on thin strips of 1mm card where the panel gaps will be, I will then be able to spread bondo over the entire shell to that same depth. When it is dry, I can sand it out, and then remove the strips of card to reveal the panel detailing.

while the glue was drying on the shell, I had a play with some dowel and some aluminium tubing...

The dowel needed a light sanding to allow the aluminium tubing to slide on. They are a really good snug fit and I will fix each one in place with fibreglass resin.

I also managed to make some progress on the front console. I drew out the positions for all the buttons, and then cut and glued card onto each button.

They have all now been painted exactly as per the screen used console in series one. I neglected to take a photo of the finished console before installing it into the cockpit :facepalm but I will do so tomorrow and post it in the next update.
The console has 2 TV screens built into it that the pilots use for video communication. These, I have replicated by cutting out the holes, gluing a piece of clear plastic to the back of the console to simulate the glass TV screens and then gluing a simulation of the Eagle 1 Screen Saver to the back of the 'glass'. This next pic is not a great photo but it gives an idea at least.

Then, I had REAL play time and to see the results, click on the picture directly below:

There is a little 'bleeding' but that is easily rectifiable when the finishing/painting is done.
Well that is about all I have managed to do for now but I feel I am heading in the right direction :)
I hope you enjoyed this update as much as I did, and I thank you all again for looking in. Any comments are welcome!

That's "all" you've managed to finish?! Pretty amazing, I'd say!:eek
Very clever, on the shell, using the cardboard strips to fill out the 'negative space' like that!
That console is cool, too! I love in the video how you've managed to light them up that way...that looks extra-cool!:cool
All this, and a tease with the aluminum rods! Wow!
As I struggle with my back wall, boring all including myself! :sleep lol
Excellent update!!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 15/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

That bloody back wall nearly did me in, too! :lol I nearly gave up there and then if I am honest.... Please stick with it, Bob. It really is shaping up superbly. Don't lose sight of the fact that we started with the hardest aspect of this build by a country mile!!! Get through this and it will be plain sailing in comparison. Plus, we are, to the best of my knowledge, going into a level of detail here that not even the studio bothered with; certainly very few people have attempted it, never mind achieved what we are doing so please, go back and look at your postings and remind yourself just how incredibly intricate and beautifully detailed your work is....

Yeah, I am pretty pleased with the TV screens. Just the right colour blue, too! Did you check out the Ebay link I sent you? I just bought a second lighting loom from the same seller....100 multi coloured LED lights with 11 settings on the controller for .......wait for it.....1 penny...again! :lol
I love this lighting game!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 21/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

I was thinking the same thing, that your monitor screens were the perfect shade of blue, for the "as seen on tv" look! You really like those lights: maybe you should try to build the 'Close Encounters' ship sometime, you could really go to town with them! lol
No...I won't be giving up yet! I've put too much into it already to stop now. I'll consider quitting again when I'm making the little hanging spacesuits or laser guns! lol:lol

Or painting the individual teeth on the zippers of the pilots uniform sleeve! :eek

Actually, I'm no good with human figures. If I made any they'd end up looking like they belonged in a Gumby film, or at best The Simpsons!
You mentioned modifying some figures for yours: I'm intrigued by this...

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 21/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Well, my CM door is 3 1/2 inches tall so, I figure that if I get some 3 3/4 inch figures, I could use them in the pilots' seats. The cheapest and, probably, the most useable figures would be the STAR TREK XI GALAXY range of figures. They are readily available, the right size and cheap as chips. I have modified figures before to great effect, so I am confident it can be done. I will post a mini tutorial when I get around to doing them. I bought a Kirk figure from a seller on Ebay for £0.75 U.K./ $1.20 U.S. / €0.90, and a pack of four figures from another seller for £2.99 U.K. / $4.75 U.S. / €3.58
Wet and dry paper and some bondo should yield some pretty amazing results!

Re: Space 1999 Eagle Transporter Build Club UPDATE 21/03 (PIC HEAVY!)

Maybe, if I can alter them sufficiently, including their faces and hair etc, I might not be breaking any rules if I take moulds of the finished pieces and sell them to other builders although, I would certainly check the legality of that first.
