So Cal Prop Party!! PICS START ON PAGE 33!!!!

Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**

and I can tell you that NONE of us are worth a $300 - $400 investment. Especially coming from the limited budgets of 20-year-olds...

I dunno man, the triple threat of JediFyfe, PHArchivist and EvilRocketeer may VERY well be worth that kind of cash outlay, ESPECIALLY at such a young age. Kind of an investment in your future.

Memories last forever, money comes and goes. Prop parties happen once a year, if that.

i say go for it.

Rocketeer, neither Geektress nor I are 21 or older, so it'd be a bit of a challenge to get a rental. Hotel or motel rooms are also not the easiest thing in the world,

You don't have to be over 21 to get a hotel/motel room. All you need is a credit card (for incidentals). You can expect to spend bewteen $50-$200 night here in LA depending on the place.

This coming from the Matt Munson? That is like a personal invitation from God! Now you HAVE to come even if you make it out here "Thelma and Louise" style.

He's referring to a rental car. Most companies require you to be over 21 before they let you rent their car.

OK - I've been to ALL the Irvine D&B prop parties, and know pretty much all the hooligans that traditionally show up, and I can tell you that NONE of us are worth a $300 - $400 investment. Especially coming from the limited budgets of 20-year-olds...

Dude - save your money; wait for the pics.

Besides; we're now moving this to the BAR - no one under 21 allowed!

It's probably going to end up as a bigger Cali trip for me for my 20th Birthday (Feb. 20th), and besides, I feel like it'd be a chance to make a better impression upon some of the more seasoned members, and potentially erase the damage of some of my earlier hooliganism. Plus, it's always good to make a few contacts within the group; you never know who you might need help from later on, and it helps if they know you personally.

If you're coming out, be sure to plan other stuff in the area so it isn't a waste.
I recommend Disney California Adventure.

Studio/workshop tours would be fun too, if you can arrange 'em.

I'm actually already contacting Blizzard about getting a tour. IDK how much luck I'll have, but I've got my fingers crossed. Was also going to talk to a manager about an internship with them while I was there. Any other studios or workshops in the area that are open to tours?

That was my thought. I went to D*Con for the first time at 17, made some new friends, met some amazing people (Especially Volpin), and even though I went WAY over budget because it was my first Con, I wouldn't trade those memories for five times what I spent (and trust me, 4k would go a long way on car payments). SPending just over $100 on plane tickets (Southwest is CHEAP), and not only meeting you guys but getting to visit the Blizzard campus and possibly other studios and/or workshops, definitely worth the cost, IMO.

True, you don't NEED to be 21, but it makes life much easier. Most hotels/motels are very reluctant if you're under 21, and some can't due to insurance reasons. Whether or not I have a credit card is irrelevant in those situations. And as Geektress said, getting a rental car is about 20 times harder when you're under 21, though I might be able to arrange something through USAA or AAA.

I regret to say that I have not yet seen that; however, it IS in my Netflix queue.... somewhere amongst the 300 other movies I "NEED" to watch.

Bah, looks like Atlanta or Kansas City. Used to trek up to Atlanta once a month, KC three times a month (when I lived in Gainesville, FL and Manhattan, KS respectively)

I'll check around with the game studios. I have some friends at Obsidian and work with a former WoW GM. I do know this, Blizzard really doesn't pay it's interns. There's such a huge line for volunteers, they just have to open the door and say "NEXT".

!!!!!!

To be fair, that's the 405 just south of the 10, which puts it squarely in the center of Los Angeles County, not Orange County.

Though I get your point :)

Remove the tall buildings in the distance and it looks the same from the border all the way up to Ventura County lines.:lol

Is it too late to withdraw my attendance? There is some strange things happening at this Prop Party!!! :confused

Well, if by strange you mean breaking into cemetary's, biting off the heads of chickens by the full moonlight and praying to the prop god Matt Munson, then maybe...:confused

I can't speak for Atlanta, but as a mostly life long Southern California resident who was recently transplanted to Kansas, KC and LA/OC/IE are like night and day. KC has a little bit of congestion for a small portion of the day; SoCal has 100's of miles of congestion for most of the day. Just be prepared to leave much earlier than you would normally expect based on distance away and for god's sake, stay out of the fast lane if you can't do the speed limit. :lol

True, however on Sundays in LA, about 70% of the drivers stay home until around 3pm. You can get anywhere in LA on Sunday before 3pm in about 20 minutes. After 3pm, people come back into town or start going out for dinner/shopping.

Good points, CN, and combining the trip is really the way to go. And you know my post was tongue-in-cheek.

But yeah - there is plenty to do and see in and around LA, and if you've already tentatively planned on the trip, then by all means. And not to get too philospophical on you, but do stuff like this when you still young and more free to do so. Its funny - when you're young, you have more time and freedom, but less cash. When you're old, its the other way around!

There are one or two hotels in the city of Lake Forest - one is a Holiday Inn, I believe, and should be fairly inexpensive. It is less than ten minutes from teh pary location (I know - its in my home town and on the way to the party for me!). Play your cards right, and you may even be able to arrange rides. Who knows...

I am / have been good friends with a level designer at Blizzard, but before you get worked up, I haven't been in touch with him for a couple of years, and it would not be appropriate at this stage for me to offer his name or to even contact him simply for this. He is a member here, but not very active. But it may not hurt to throw a call out in the OT for any industry pros.
