Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**
OK - I've been to ALL the Irvine D&B prop parties, and know pretty much all the hooligans that traditionally show up, and I can tell you that NONE of us are worth a $300 - $400 investment. Especially coming from the limited budgets of 20-year-olds...
Dude - save your money; wait for the pics.
Besides; we're now moving this to the BAR - no one under 21 allowed!
It's probably going to end up as a bigger Cali trip for me for my 20th Birthday (Feb. 20th), and besides, I feel like it'd be a chance to make a better impression upon some of the more seasoned members, and potentially erase the damage of some of my earlier hooliganism. Plus, it's always good to make a few contacts within the group; you never know who you might need help from later on, and it helps if they know you personally.
If you're coming out, be sure to plan other stuff in the area so it isn't a waste.
I recommend Disney California Adventure.
Studio/workshop tours would be fun too, if you can arrange 'em.
I'm actually already contacting Blizzard about getting a tour. IDK how much luck I'll have, but I've got my fingers crossed. Was also going to talk to a manager about an internship with them while I was there. Any other studios or workshops in the area that are open to tours?
I dunno man, the triple threat of JediFyfe, PHArchivist and EvilRocketeer may VERY well be worth that kind of cash outlay, ESPECIALLY at such a young age. Kind of an investment in your future.
Memories last forever, money comes and goes. Prop parties happen once a year, if that.
i say go for it.
That was my thought. I went to D*Con for the first time at 17, made some new friends, met some amazing people (Especially Volpin), and even though I went WAY over budget because it was my first Con, I wouldn't trade those memories for five times what I spent (and trust me, 4k would go a long way on car payments). SPending just over $100 on plane tickets (Southwest is CHEAP), and not only meeting you guys but getting to visit the Blizzard campus and possibly other studios and/or workshops, definitely worth the cost, IMO.
You don't have to be over 21 to get a hotel/motel room. All you need is a credit card (for incidentals). You can expect to spend bewteen $50-$200 night here in LA depending on the place.
True, you don't NEED to be 21, but it makes life much easier. Most hotels/motels are very reluctant if you're under 21, and some can't due to insurance reasons. Whether or not I have a credit card is irrelevant in those situations. And as Geektress said, getting a rental car is about 20 times harder when you're under 21, though I might be able to arrange something through USAA or AAA.
This coming from the Matt Munson? That is like a personal invitation from God! Now you HAVE to come even if you make it out here "Thelma and Louise" style.
I regret to say that I have not yet seen that; however, it IS in my Netflix queue.... somewhere amongst the 300 other movies I "NEED" to watch.
Main "freeway" through Tolono, Illinois!
Main "freeway" through Orange County, California!
There will be "Culture Shock" associated with your visit! I just wanted to prepare you!!!!!!
Bah, looks like Atlanta or Kansas City. Used to trek up to Atlanta once a month, KC three times a month (when I lived in Gainesville, FL and Manhattan, KS respectively)
