'SLAVE 1' Studio scale build

SLAVE 1

Hi, I'm building a studio scale model of my favourite Star Wars ship, Slave 1. The files were sourced from Gambody and 3D printed in ABS on my Ultimaker over many weeks. The 3D prints only provide a basic framework as there are quite a few inaccuracies and the detail is a bit wonky. It's getting some major surgery and a lot of scratch built detail including an all new cockpit.

I hope you enjoy following my progress
Many thanks

SLAVE 1 ROTATING COCKPIT
I've been making progress on my 3D printed 'studio scale' 1/34 Slave 1 from files downloaded at Gambody. This model isn't 100% accurate and I am trying to correct that. Rather than totally screen accurate I want to give it engineering credibility and have scratch-built the cockpit to my own design.

You can see my design for Slave 1's rotating cockpit here on my YouTube channel.

I'm seriously considering making it functional - what do you think?...

I’ve been working on a 35in tall slave 1 using the same 3D print files also.. it’s an alright sculp but yeah definitely a ton of inaccuracies but still the best 3D file yet. I do wish there was a better one. That cockpit looks outstanding!!

Gorgeous.

And please be sure to use the name "Slave 1" as much as possible in this thread so as to give The Mouse The Finger.
Thanks Gregatron, glad you like my solution to Slave 1's cockpit.

Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1, Slave 1. That should be enough finger action. :)

Thanks for the great comment E3kehoe. Totally agree re the 3D model sadly it's currently our best option...

I just found your YouTube videos and I have watched all four at least 3 times. This is a BEAST! Your cockpit looks absolutely amazing. The Slave 1 is such a unique design and its just too darn cool seeing it at this scale. I can't wait until your next video.

Side note, I just bought Revell's 1/88 Slave 1 as it's a decent size and, like your model, has good bones, but open for a lot of fun customizations. I really wanted Finemolds 1/72, but yikes did not want to pay $400 and up on EBAY. I will be looking at yours for inspiration.

WORKING ROTATING COCKPIT
Hi guys, after your encouragement and a few beers I have re-built my Slave 1 cockpit to make it actually rotate! You can see the build video HERE on my YouTube channel. The explanation of my concept is below. Hope you like it.

This is the landing / take off position for the flight deck.

The flight deck rotates 180 degrees.

The unit then tilts back 90 degrees for flight

Here's the cockpit unit inserted into the main hull in the landing position.

And here it is in the flight position.

An overall shot with the vac formed canopy. Now I have to start work on the tail and bond everything together before detailing the outside.

Thanks for the feedback and support guys it's much appreciated.
