Silicone P1 Suit Evolution. Pg41 Hands Video 19/07/13

I have to say, I enjoy going through the build from page one. It's a great snapshot of the progress you have in this build. The details are amazing. I'm very eager to see this develop further and see it complete.

You seriously have a talent there. Everything looks so good so far as it always has when Usurper is on the job.
Can't wait to see it all finished and put together. Here we have a Predator.
Keep up the good work.

The hands looking fantastic Lee.  Looking back at the thread I was curious if doing a closed mouth type sculpt was just personal preference or something that had to be done knowing you'd be using silicone?

I think we should give you a big hand for this suit....the worlds first silicone suit...

one of the few pieces on the board i'm motivated to see completed

Rock on leeman

Yeah I am anxious to get this finally done also,  I wanted to push myself, and try to do what some said could not be done, and I am happy with what  have done so far.
I do not want a big hand for this, although the odd thanks from people who have asked me questions would have been nice, hell even a reply to me when I replied to them would have been nice.

Tom,
It was a calculated thing,  Closed mouth is THE ONLY way to pull off silicone mask successfully if you plan to animate it in my opinion.

"Why" I hear you say, when people have used half open or full open masks before?..................they used Latex, that's why.

Latex as we know is much stiffer, so when the mouth closes or opens its pretty much a small area around the moving parts that will move also.

Silicone however is a different ball game completely, as anyone who has video chatted with me will know my closed mouth silicone heads mouth stretches way further than needed for when I animate it, with NO strange warping/twisting of the face, that's because it is in its natural static position where it would return to on a creature, I mean think about it, silicone is as soft as skin, do we walk around with our mouth half open?
anyway im side tracking, silicone in the open mouth or semi open mouth position will distraught the face when opened as silicone move differently, and the amount of material moving will be way bigger than on a latex mask. then if you wish to close the mouth you have the same issue again with scrunching and bits moving that shouldn't. sure they can be worked around, but id rather not have to deal with that  when it was totally unnecessary in the 1st place.

oh and I can fit the stunt bio perfect in this state also.

:D  :D :D  :D  :D

Coming on leaps and bounds mate,

I know your not one for time frames, but when do you see yourself working on the legs, it will be great to see it all come together.

Well I was hoping to work on them towards the end of the month, but my supplier has let me down with stock of plastiflex so I can not work on my trade until a week from today, ( when they said I will receive it ) so I do not know now.
I have about 6 or 7 smaller things I need to do before I can dig out the sculpt.

Moving right along Lee! You are making great progress.....and if i didnt say it before... Thanks! Your shared knowledge is much appreciated!

Ok I missed the video of you breathing and such. Totally fantastic, just beautiful. I think I missed what the quills are made of and how you attached them.

Quills are made of the stuff I sent you Jeff, that silicone compound I used to have, I saved what was left , and it was enough for me for this project.

George gave me the tip on how to attach, silpoxy with a little pin to hold it in place while it /they cured.

Currently about to start working again on the Bicep armour, hope to have it sculpted by tomorrow if I can get some free time.

Copy from the pm i sent you.

Naaa I don't have the name, the company I got it from claimed it was end of line stuff, they had some stock but the last batch I had was pretty much it, I did not keep the name of it, it had some weird name like  polylose12984 or similar, i've since searched the web for it but come up with nothing.
Id imagine you guys stateside would have something similar, its a silicone compound that cures when baked. maybe try phoning a few places.

I have heard Jason (PredatrHuntr) say he used black Sculpy Bake and Bend to make quills. Not sure what it is like but thought it would be worth a try.

Lee, just out of curiosity, with the stretch of silicone, how big of a person do you think your skin might fit and still be comfortable? Any idea? I would think it could fit someone bigger than you up to a point but it would probably need to be foam filled or something for anyone smaller.

Steve

Bake n Bend used to be the best option. but they stopped doing single colours ( well black anyway ) a long while ago. This stuff is completely different as it is silicone, and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more stretchy.

As for who it would fit, im 45 chest, 35 waist. and it will stretch ALOT, I do not know at what point it would pull out of shape and the details look odd, but I think it would handle 6+ inches on both chest and stomach before that happened.

Thanks for the vid Lee. Cool stuff. 6+ inches of girth is quite a lot. Clearly if a persons pysique is not as desirable as one might want (we can't all be buily like Jeff  :D ) it might have to stretch more in some places than others but it would probably still do it and not look too terrible. What is the thickest part of your skin and how thick is it? Thanks again, I am already planning....

Steve

6 inches was a mild guess.

I have not measured how thick it is I would guess at 5mm -10mm, thickest part is the foamed pecs.

Well, I have to say , the dredd armour was a pain in the ass, as I had to force myself to be more symmetrical, the upside it has helped greatly in my sculpting the armour for this.

hopefully throw this in silicone Sunday.
