Silicone P1 Suit Evolution. Pg41 Hands Video 19/07/13

Hey Dude, I just scimmed your entire thread I don't know how I missed the silicone hand. I really like the flexibility it looks very realistic.

Yeah sorry its long winded, this is the Final evolution of it though, it was nice to keep a record of how I changed it over the years, but aware that some find it annoying.

The silicone hand was a bit of a mess to be honest, I put too much catalyst with the gel coat and it warped badly and cracked if I recall ( If I remember correctly I did not measure the catalyst I was just doing drops, and actually dropped the container in the resin. )  I managed to get one pull out, but the right hand should fit even better, now I am more careful when moulding, and I hope to have that done by mid June.

Hey I just looked into the Plastiflex. I have a question. Can you lay that up like fiberglass and make it this and thus lite? I am very interested in using it. I really love fiberglass because of its lite weight but it can be brittle.

Sorry for the slow reply, ive been out all day ( saw the new star trek ) if you mean can it be thickso, yes. I mainly used it for my DREDD armour build ( thread on here) and I do one detail coat then a thickso layer, it cures in about 20 mins, and fully hardens after about 8 hours i think, it will NOT break of chip even if you throw it on the floor.

I will take a video of the dredd sections flexing if you want, or answer anything else if I can help.

You sort of answered my question if I had only read it before I sent it. I have no idea what thickso is. My question was can you make this stuff pretty thin an thus keep it lite weight? What the heck is THICKSO? Also, how was Star Trek? I am not a big trek fan but I liked the hell out of the last one.

Sorry Thickso, is not correct I guess, its just a powder you add to the plastiflex, which makes it thicker , and then you can trowel or brush it onto vertical surfaces ( depends how thick you make it )

But yes you can make it thin,1mm 2mm will not be as rigid as resin, but I do not know what you are thinking of using it on so do not know if it would be applicable.

as for Star Trek, I loved it, im not a huge trekkie so did not get butt hurt when they dragged it kicking and screaming into the modern era, but I am a big fan from being a kid in the 70-80's and  watched all the tv shows and films.

This improves on the 1st imo, and I think everyone raised their game well, but only real complaint is JJ still lens flared the **** out of it. I am beginning to think he needs to seek help for it prior to the next star wars, or any lightsaber battles will be unwatchable hehe.

HOPEFULLY have this hand done in the next few days, I have so much stuff I need to do for JUDGE PREDD , it bewildering.

Broke the back of the right hand today, some things i need to amend then i can tighten up the details and do the fine details.

Lovely work as usual, I was just wondering (might be a daft question) how soft the silicon is compared to latex, and how stiff the nails will be, will you have to strengthen them somehow?

Silicone is VERY soft compared to latex and it will not hold its shape unless you have something inside., you can make it even softer also.  The nails are soft, I did the left hand 20 months ago ish ( somewhere in this mess of a thread ) they do not need to be hard its not like I am going to be scratching anyones eyes out.
but if needed I can easily make a fist !. :)

Thanks, that makes sense to me now, look forward to seeing it completed with the other hand

Loving the detail..will look fantastic once painted/ dyed..having embracing airbrushing I can see how the finest detail can be brought out and come alive. Looking forward to seeing the colours going on and getting substance to the piece.
