Sideshow Hellboy Samaritan - Take 2 (merged)

Still waiting for them to take my final payment even though they said it would be the 14th and still watching the value of the dollar increase so that I have to pay more and more for mine by the day.

Thanks Sideshow. Muppets.

Got mine! Eventually. Had to pick it up from the New Improved Post Office that is in the cellar of WHSMiths. In the middle of town, miles from the nearest car park. At least it wasn't heavy. Oh, wait, it was. If I'd of had the option, I'd have picked it up from the small post office in the next village, which has parking outside, and a friendly owner that holds the door open so you can get bulky parcels out.

But I digest...

Having read the mixed reviews her, and elsewhere, I opened the package with trepidation...

...and I have to say, I liked what I saw! Good, heavy weight to it, nice positive 'CLICK' when you break the cylinder, heavy bullets, even the paint job wasn't as black as it's been painted (pun intended)! I'm inclined to agree that the tracker bullets need a more diffuse glow, but I've added a disc of tracng paper on the flat of the clear casting, and a ball of scrunched up tracing paper between the disc and the LED, it gets rid of the green 'spot'- looks better now:

:)

I posted this on the Sideshow Freaks forum, and I didn't want to retype everything, so here's the copied text. Note that I swapped batteries for the "bad" tracer bullet to make sure it wasn't a battery issue. Should I contact sideshow and get an exchange?

---

So I have some problems with my Sammy... I recently spun the bullet chamber, and apparently, it rubs up against another part of the gun, and left a scratch all around it... there's also a large paint chip because of the scratch...

I also noticed that one of my tracer bullets is dimmer and bluer than the other three... it was hard to take pics, but i think the difference is clearly visible...

from left to right, he dimmer one is the third.

The left one is less bright and less green...

I'm thinking of calling sideshow to get this repaired/replaced... I really didn't think these issues would bother me, but they're all i notice now...

Question to all the UK people who have received theirs:

Did Sideshow take the tax and shipping in the final payment or on the door as their e-mail stated?

My card was declined because they are trying to take about £160 instead of the £82 for the final payment.

Will I pay the £160 and then still get a bill at the door?

If you ordered from the "EU Warehouse" then you should not get taxed at the door. Sideshow automatically draws the VAT from your account and since the item is shipped within the EU, from a warehouse in the UK, there are no extra customs or tax fees. That's the way it has always worked for me anyway.

However, on some items, like the Big Baby, Sideshow have stated that they cannot ship it from the EU warehouse and that you'll have to handle customs+tax yourself when it arrives.

Here's my try at a modified SS tracer round - Brass cartridge body, modded clear bullet with painted tip & repainted base to match body.
I'll post pics of it together and lit once paint drys.

Looks good, just the type of modification that I think everyone is thinking about. :thumbsup

I will be interested to see how it looks head on when lit. Also, how did you tackle the issue of the base "attaching" to the casing?

.

I've noticed that some of the battery housings are offset, making the base impossible to fit flush with the casing. :(

The base just push fits on as normal (a good tight fit) but I cut off the locating 'knobule'.

The paint doesn't really match the real brass but with some experimentation that could be overcome. Silver tip needs another coat too I think.

The shell is a snug to tight fit in the cylinder but I think that is good as they dont flop about when playing.

The black metal and rests don´t fit very well into the holes in the back of the base. I´ll have to drill or sand them a bit to make the rests fit :unsure I really don´t like to have to modify stuff like that :rolleyes

Otherwise I really like the Samaritan :love

So, what can you tell us about the brass cartridge body? Machined? Found item?

C'mon man, inquiring minds want to know :love :lol

Just a heads up to any UK guys who are interested, Forbidden Planet have the regular Samaritan up for £209, but use the discount code '3Y3TB3N' for 20% off. I just managed to cancel my pre-order in time, and re-order using the code. Came to £173 shipped.

Hehe - I just did the exact same thing!

Hell(boy) with that, I just used that code to buy the big baby at a whopping £120 off (cost £490) :)
That makes it cheaper than if i'd ordered direct from SS themselves.

Thanks Monster!

Lucky chaps :)
Wish I had done this but mine arrived Thursday last week.......faulty.

The opening mechanism does not hold the front of the gun properly so it moves on the bar.

The chambers not only rotate but move up, down, left, right, any way you want really. It is really, really loose and sloppily put on. This means that whilst it was in transit the chamber has been bouncing around freely and grinding on the frame and there are black paint chips everywhere in the polystyrene. It doesn't so much spin as grind it's way round.

I was not a happy bunny. This should never have passed their QC. It really is so very poorly constructed unlike my polystone version which fits snugly on the mechanism and doesn't move and the chamber spins like a dream.

I opened it looked at the gun and put it away in disgust without even bothering to unwrap any of the other pieces.

I have not enjoyed the whole experience of dealing with Sideshow and doubt I ever will buy from them again.

Now I'm waiting to see what their Customer Service will be like.

No problem - just post some pics when it arrives!

Just checked, the code's not a one time offer either - can be used multiple times - in fact, i never needed to enter it again - it was automatically being deducted from my basket.

That said, FP's storefront was having problems earlier on, so hopefully its not just a glitch.
