Show your Dr. Who props!

My girlfriend's son has been away all summer. He's the one who got me watching the new Dr. Who (I grew up with Tom Baker). I made him a few things while he was gone. A few TARDIS keys, psychic paper, the make-your-own-sonic kit (bought from ThinkGeek), and a box to keep it all in.

All I can say is "parenting done right" I am sure it will be a huge hit!

So I am about to run out the door and deliver this. A friend wanted the 8th doctors new / alternate Sonic Screwdriver. He couldn't find it any where, I did see a post on here about a 3D print limited run but couldn't find any links to where he could purchase one. When I told him about it he said he wasn't crafty enough to build one, even from a kit. So I agreed to sculpt him one from scratch.

Here it is finished.

I scraped the threaded ends from a pocket lite so it could separate into three pieces. That way he could change the batteries and the light if it died.
The wiring was a pain in the rear. I did all the wiring and then sculpted around the wires (just light. no sounds). Which was a huge mistake and the main body ended up twice as thick as it should be. I smashed it to bits and started over shoving all the wires into a small pvc tube then sculpting around the tube.
I didnt have any resin to cast the gem and the only thing close I could find was a large acrylic crystal that I cut to size, colored blue with ink pigment, then clear coated which wrecked the pigment in this cool blotchy crackle fashion. The fins, I negative sculpted out of modeling clay. Then casted out of JB weld. The rest was sculpted out of bondo. I had to sculpt the button because I could not for the life of me find a button. all I have in my shop are switches for some reason. But I did find appropriate scrap wood in my shop. Which I realized after going to every craft store with in 20 miles. All they seemed to carry was really soft balsa. I hope he likes it. I didnt find the stats for it until after it was finished. It is 10 inches long instead of the originals 9. I took a lot of artistic liberty with it, because there really doesn't seem to be that many reference pictures of the one that was built for Paul Mcgann

Oh. And I had a bunch of these stickers I threw in with it as an extra. The design was made for a spray paint stencil
but I though it would be fun to print out a bunch of stickers for Steamcon last year as a hand out to people who did Doctor Who inspired costumes or props. I only ended up handing out a few so I have a huge stack just sitting on my desk.

Wrong color, I know. It was a race to get him to a small local convention to work out the bugs. Those bugs included his head falling off and his speaker system shorting out. Other than that I had a ton of fun. Yes, that is a Flux Capacitor on his dog collar.

Hello!
I built the Recycled Tardis Jukebox last year after my 19 year old daughter "challanged" me to build a Tardis from an used UHaul box...
Now I can honestly state that I spent many weekends last year, in the garage, building a Time Machine for my daughter !

Yesterday I picked up a replica of the Twelfth Doctor's ring that I had commissioned from a local jeweler friend of mine. I'm very happy with the results too! She used the same green amber stone as used in the original and made the ring with two separate bands like the original. We chose to make the ring out of jewelers brass which has been coated to protect against tarnishing. At first I wasn't sure about the brass idea but it really did turn out very nice. She also added a design feature to allow the ring to stay together as as one piece while on display and still be separable like the real one.

How much did it cost to make?? It a really nice ring. Are you sure it the same amber as Rowleys used custom amber stones and have very little left. I am having a ring made to wear with my wedding ring by Rowleys who made Peter Capaldi's ring....When I have it I will show you the stone.....
