Show off your RE weathered Obi sabers!

Well if it's a 4 piece pommel it's screen accurate and ready to start building an all real parts OB1 and join us ... you can exploit all your OCD experiences and focus it on a new lightsaber project which might take years to finish and meanwhile leave this one alone as is to enjoy ;) I still cherish my Parks and other finished OB1 lightsaber replica's until I can finish my all real parts OB1 oneday ... since 1981! ... And I have two nephews now who could lateron assist me with the weathering of dings and scratches so thx for suggesting and posting those pictures Feezle-Nuts :)

Yes, its the 4 piece vintage one. I will put this on my current saber. I don't have the patience to collect the rest of the vintage parts. I've had real grenades before. This one feels authentic and is accurate to the screen used one so I'm more than satisfied with it. The balance pipe is just the way I want it. I like the versions that are more matte textured like this one. The transistors are real as is the rusty Graflex clamp. All of my parts are the way I want them, but I've always wanted the correct handwheel. Once its on, it will truly be my ideal Obi ANH weathered saber even if its only partially vintage parts, it will certainly be what (I consider) accurate. :) I'll have to defer to the rest of you to build the 100% real part sabers. lol. My wife thinks I put in too much time as it is. lol lol

Thanks a lot Chaim. That thread is helpful, I've read it many times. I don't have a drill press so I will need to enlist the help of someone with a proper shop. :)
Yes, I got my first grenade just after the discovery. It was easier then to find them on ebay and I won an auction for one that same week. I've had 2. They were awesome, but as far as accuracy to the real prop, I love my Roman's grenade. I can honestly say that with all I have done exchanging parts and weathering the ones that needed add'l tweaking, this saber is almost as close as I could possibly hope for.

You had real grenades, more than 1? Oy ... it's the only part I seek to finish my OB1 ... meanwhile check out James Kenobi 1138 thread about attaching a D-ring onto your vintage handwheel ... quite useful ;)

That looks awesome. I never get tired of looking at great Obi ANH sabers.

You, guys, should be proud, you've made beautiful props. I'm glad you shared some photos with us.

Btw: what's your opinion as far as the Graflex clamp from the Chronicles?
Is it really weathered or did they apply tape?
I've read something but, for the time being, does not seem to be a defitinive answer...or not?:confused

Hey Enrico! It's my opinion that the clamp on the original saber was really weathered. If they put any tape on, I imagine that it was to cover up the weathering and it just came off during filming. Personally, I don't see any real definitive proof it was on the saber at all. The black and white photos we have to go on aren't clear enough in my opinion. It's so hard to see if we are seeing tape or part of the clamp being washed out by lighting or flash from the camera. My clamp is nice and rusty so I may not put any on mine.

Hey PF35!
Yup, I totally agree with you, also imo no tape were apply.
Anyway I like the idea of something still mysterious as far as this incredible prop :ninja
Btw: I love your clamp!

Nice weathering guys!
Still haven't done any tweaking on mine. Still looking for any vintage parts I can scrounge up. Thanks to Peacefrog for the transistors!
If anybody here has a line on a clamp or hand wheel, please let me know.
Thanks.

Okay ... I just noticed something on most RE weathered sabers ... you guys seem all to leave the square-like metal piece behind the lever, while clearly it's not apparant at least on the Mechanismo/Chronicles pictures .... why is that?

The only ones with the square washers are the guys who replaced their clamps with original clamps. My guess is most people don't notice that detail.

Very true. Most probably don't even notice. I did though. :) Real vintage Graflex clamp, no square tab.

I know that I left mine on my graflex because I was so humbled by having a vintage piece I wanted to leave it all intact. Eventually I'll grit my teeth and pry off the tab at the top, chuck the washer, etc.

Of course whether or not the square washer/tab was still on the saber during production and at some point fell off is mere speculation ... since the second washer under the first 'transistor' was apparently still on the Tunesia version whilest filming ... however it no longer is in the Mechanismo/ Chronicles pictures, assuming it's one and the same prop ... to further add on the confusion ... the same goes for the position of the cubes on the handwheel ... were they intact as the original part whilest filming commenced and only flipped 180º after production for the prop stills? ... Well your guess is as good as mine :wacko

I think even though all the parts were identified, there are still so many questions. That really keeps this saber so fun. It also stands to reason that you can have choices and still keep it accurate.

I just left my square washer on so I know where it is. lol We do know the washer under one of the transistors was gone by the time they did the Obi/Vader fight scene ending.. Had to have fallen off sometime during filming. It's probably in the sands of Tunisia somewhere.....whos got a metal detector.......
