Sherlock Coat opinions/info?

From Ray's very close up shots he sent me, you can see kind of a grainy texture, sort of like leather meets wood. It's VERY fine and almost impossible to see.

So I got the same coat as Aposstle and generalFROSTY a few weeks ago :D I finally got a scarf too, its not exactly accurate, but its blue and warm :) Anyway, I figured that I would throw up some pics!

Why Thank You! That hat is probably the only quality thing i've ever bought from walmart :) I've worn it most days for 3 years and it still going strong! :D

That looks great! So glad these coats are paying off for people. Makes me happy ^_^ Hey Cama.. just seen some shots of a metal 11th sonic on your account... what's that? A self made project? Where can I see the thread? :)

I found a bolt of the Alfatex fabric at a store called F&S in LA yesterday. They were having a half off sale on all wools, so I got it for $15 a yard. It's really nice stuff.

Coat finally came! the cut is perfect as is the pattern. it is more mid grey than black because the crossing isn't as fine thought. Plan on using black fabric paint to fix this, unless could anyone recommend alternative methods of darkening wool?

I DID IT!!! Almost a year after starting work on the pattern, I've completed my test coat! Is it perfect? No. But I'm still really proud of it. Now comes the hard part though, finding fabric, and finding buttons. I actually have some nice buttons that are pretty close (just have to paint a gold rim on.) but I only have eight when I need at least ten. I've seen those kits where you mix the different colored substances together, press the button in it, wait for it to dry, then use polymer clay to make a copy of the button. They seen to work real well and I don't need a super sturdy button for the belt as it won't be operational and will probably be tacked to the back of the coat anyway. The problem is that they retail about $20 US. That's not real expensive, but for two buttons... and I probably won't use it again. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to duplicate a button? Or of buttons that are less than $20 for ten or eleven? As for fabric I found this Wool Blend Coating Coating Black/Grey - Discount Designer Fabric - Fabric.com Cheap! But it is a 50/50 wool/poly blend. I'll order a swatch of it though and see. I also found this Black/Grey Wool Coating - Fabric By The Yard At Discount Prices I don't think it's as accurate and it looks almost like vertical lines to me.
I have another question. What kind of lining should I use? Is there a certain material that's better for coats? Also, where do I buy horsehair canvas interfacing? I haven't actually looked in any stores, but on their websites (Joann, hancock fabrics etc..) they only sell it by the bolt, which is some $200 plus!

One thing I cannot for the life of me figure out is how to draft a pattern for that stupid undercollar! Right now I've just settled for interfacing the collar heavier in the shape of an undercollar, but if anyone can tell me how to draft a pattern then I might give it a try.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Good, sounds like you're halfway there now. About those darn buttons, don't remind me. I'm still searching for a set.

Found my fabric. Swatch came in today of the one I posted and that's what I'm using! The pattern is much too dense but I still like how it looks. it makes the overall color look grey, but you still know it's a mix of black and white. Even though it's wool/poly bled it feels like wool and it's tweed, so I'm going for it!

So the fabric I was going to use went out of stock (even though it was listed as in stock:behave) so I'm looking for others I found these three but I want some feedback on them before I buy.

Black/Grey Wool Coating - Fabric By The Yard At Discount Prices (don't know the scale on this one.)
Black/Grey Wool Coating - Fabric By The Yard At Discount Prices I keep going back ond forth about this one, I like how it gives the fabric a blueish color so it would look like the coat in this picture http://www.thestage.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/sherlock-benedict-cumberbatch.jpg but I don't know about the rest of the time :(

The first and third samples are no good, but that second one looks pretty close. Would be better with a quarter on it for size.
