Cooper Howard - AKA The Ghoul full cosplay outfit build

coat is now complete. altered the bottom rips & tears to make it less uniform and added the button hole in the back. the reason for that is I noticed while wearing the bandolier/rifle sling it had a tendency to ride up while moving around. my solution was to add lead weight to the bottom of the bandolier which would continually pull down on it. of course we don't want that to show which means it needs to be on the inside so I needed to pass the string through teh coat so the weight would not be see. I probably could have just cut a slit in teh coat but decided to make it more durable by sewing in a button hole ...
Also managed to finally find the screen accurate version of the stuff in his tin that hold the anti ghoul vials with the help of an Etsy seller who is making the inhaler for me as well as screen accurate vials. The ones I have are not correct ...
With those out of the way the only things left are to weather the cowboy hat, add the correct band & find someone to sew the pants for me using the material & pattern I have. This will let me focus all my remaining time between now & MegaCon in Feb on creating the mask - which I'm sure I'm need every bit of it ... lol

I had to make it .... I found a base saddle bag that had 3 straps/buckles which was the hardest part and then I simply altered what I needed to make it screen accurate ... changed the front leather panels, added the copper pieces & leather straps, dyed & weathered as appropriate

Damn you're handy :) I've actually found some real saddle bags... in various degrees of wear. I might take a stab at one of those, but most likely after this Halloween. I actually came across the name of them: they were made by; Walter Boyt Saddlery Company. Typically called "boyt saddle bags" that might help others in their search. Technically they are "WW1 US Cavalry Saddle bags".

Very cool, still waiting on a leather set I purchased, so I'll keep the weight idea in mind. I went to megacon in 2022, I don't think I'll be there in Feb though. Too much going on in 2025 /2026 so I may be sidelined (milestone birthdays for both myself and my wife, daughter's wedding etc... ) Afraid this stuff is heading to the back burner...

My Dalek Builders Group gets an exhibition booth booth every year so we get to go for free. I try to have a different costume for each day in addition to climbing in Dalek Nim and driving around exterminating humans ... I have a 10th Dr Who, Mandalorian, Jayne Cobb and hopefully The Ghoul cosplay outfits for 2025. I also created a unique character I call Future Man which has elements of Riddick and the guy from the future in the Deadpool movie. I had to create a unique weapon for him as well ...

That's very cool! I've done a few... That witch king was mostly real metal (that sword is sick), but it's heavy as sin and not very practical. Redhood was great, included the helmet fans and voice modulator, IT turned out so good... one of the best latex masks I've ever had. I cannot imagine hauling all of them to a con.

Well I need to use a small trailer to haul Dalek Nim around so it's not that big of a deal. We get a hotel that is attached to the Orlando convention center and it's just a sky bridge walk to the Con. If we need a break we jus5 head back to the room,
. Mando's Amban pulse rifle, Jayne's Cahallan Fullbore Autolock and Future Man's X-40 Cobalt Ion Pulse rifle all have cases and each costume goes in one or more plastic storage bins --- piece of cake

You had me at “A small trailer” - haha ok so I’m at least two notches below your dedication! I see how you’re so handy though. Kudos

Weathering update; working more on the coat before I start the cutting and ripping… also took the vest and added the dark streaks…

Worked on the gloves a little, they are slightly darker but have the yellow stitching and thumb keyhole… added a touch of black to try and get closer to the real ones.

The complete leather set, arrived and it’s fantastic… have not started to weather it yet; and had to order a few things. In the meantime I have been watching video after video for various techniques.

Excited as my authentic saddles bags are scheduled to arrive today… no weathering those!

Wow, it just arrived and I can’t be happier with this vintage bag! Bonus that it actually smells of horse!! I’ll try and buff up the metal but otherwise it’s good to go.

You don't commit to build8ng a life size Dalek without first planning on how you're going to get him from place to place and also where you plan to store him at home. Everyone in our Dalek Builders Group either owns a trailer or rents one to go t9 Cons ...

So one thing to consider depending on how screen accurate you want to be is that the saddle bag from the show has a lighter tan color on the bag than the strap holding the 2 bags together ... it also not a lighting effect as I got numerous images of it and this 2-tone effect can be seen each time ...

Ya I keep looking at various videos and pictures… that bag is really confusing… shots where it looks not two toned.
Appreciate the pic. I’m going to keep looking…

What are you planning to do for his knife?
I’ve got a 3D printed and painted knife… with a slight issue though; the sheath dye is rubbing off on the knife. The blade is pretty clean in the show, so I may have to repaint, or I suppose I could just ignore it, as I don’t see taking the knife out often.

All weapons are done…

The image I provided is only 1 of many across several different scenes so I'm convinced it's 2 tone. If you look really close in the image you have you can see it looks like 2 different shades as well but the effect in that shot is subtle because of th3 extreme flat lighting caused by being out in the desert ...

So 3 more detailed but non the less important pieces have been completed ... the inhaler, the correct screen accurate style of viles and the screen accurate 'padding' that was in the tin.. There is only one scene during the entire season where you see inside his tin (for all of 3 secs) to be able to get a clear shot at the actual tin (a 1920s Egyptian cigarette co.) and the padding. It took way longer than it should to figure out what that stuff was but an Etsy shop owner pointed me in the right direction ... details matter ... this is the s@me reason I 3D printed and pain stakingly painted about 15 Nuba Cola bottle caps that he carries around in his pocket and then throws on the ground to pay for the cherry tomatoes he takes while he is in the process of shooting everyone in Filly ... so the only piece left to source is a lasso to put in the saddle bag to go along with the tin and inhaler. There are cheap ones on Amazon so that's likely what I'll do as I don't plan to demonstrate my non lassoing skills during a Con ... lol

Ya, I believe ya… but you can see the confusion; here’s another I had. Ordered some leather re color cream, I don’t want to mess too much with it. But I’ll see if I can lighten.

Really well done! Did you get the inhaler on Etsy? I’ve got one in order… along with extra viles… that entire tin is perfect!

Well it's certainly possible the prop dept had more than one and the contnuity guy didn't pay too much attention to it ... wouldn't be the first time a show did something like that ...
