was thinking of slappin' a pulse beacon together from spare parts. was gonna go on the "best guess" theory of what it looked like but thought i would ask first if anyone had any pics of the actual prop. so, anyone? :)
thanks much.

Hi m8

I was going to make one to sit alongside the grenade I am making, but can only find one picture in the Serenity film book, which doesn't look too much like the one in the film. I took a few sceen caps but its to quick and to dark, and not enough detail can be seen to be sure of acurate detail.

If you want a scan of the picture in the book, I can post here or e-mail me and i will send it.

:) Don

hiya don
yeah, if you can do a scan and a post i would really appreciate it.
thanks dude..
:)

Here's a quick question since I'm not as well versed in the verse as others. Is the pulse beacon the same as the crybaby from firefly? Those we're pretty well seen in the show and you can probably get good caps of those from the dvds.

No, the pulse beacon is that little gadget Mal throws to the operative at Inara's place...

Hi m8

Picture as promised. There are two in the book, one very sleak looking, and this one. the caption reads the film used one was based on the pictured one, although the one in the film looked smaller and more box like.

if you come across any proper pictures please post, as it would be good to see what it really looked like.

The screen-used one was sold by Propstore, but I didn't save the pics, as it looked like a tangle of junk.

They made a practical prop of the version pictured above (it was a prototype, and they ended up using a different one for filming) - I own the actual metal one (got it from propstore). There's a screw at the bottom that activates the pulsing red light. Very cool. I actually liked it better than the boxy one in the film, which is why I picked it up. Plus, it looks almost identical to the drawing in the Serenity companion.

I'll try to get some pics up.

OK, I don't have any large photos of it where I am at the moment, but I did take a shot of it and use it in the Serenity ship's papers that I did. I used it as part of a repair receipt. You can see how close the physical prop is to the illustration in the book:

The actual prop is very cool. I think it may be my favorite Firefly / Serenity prop that I own.

I have all the pics from when propstore sold the original. Assuming its okay to post them, I'll get them up tomorrow on my lunch-break

Post away. The Propstore is a public site and the photos were posted there for all to see and they are watermarked.

That spurred my memory - I archived a bunch of that stuff, too.

I don't have the propstore pics from the pulse beacon I own (actually, if anyone has those, I'd like to get them), but here are the propstore ones of the screen used beacon:

Ah okay, well here we go, here's all the pics they had of it. Some with the light on, some with it off and some nice shots of the back and underside there aswell:

Thanks for posting the pics guys :thumbsup

Any ideas where to start looking for these parts? Nothing is immediately familiar to me.

Yes, thank you gentlemen. Sorry I couldn't find it. :confused

Umm.. the big blue part says "return" on it -- what are the chances it's a control box from a piece of industrial equipment? Like a big ol' mill or saw or something?

I want to say that its an electical connection on a machine of some sort. It deffinanlty looks like a peice from a machine of some type and its got the black and sliver warning label/spec sheet thingy riveted on to it. Thats a dead give away that its either electrical or mechanical. It almost looks like a part of a fuse box of something of the sort. I would not at all be surprised if they just pulled it from something, wires and all, and stuck a light bulb in it to make it glow.

I know about half the parts on the "prototype" one I have are standard electrical components. I'm betting if you took the picture to a hardware store and browsed the electrical isle, you'd find some of it.

On the one I own, about half the stuff is machined specifically for the part.

The light (which I'm assuming was the same on the prototype as on the screen-used one) actually pulses on its own. It slowly gows brighter over about a second, goes dark, and starts the cycle over. The switch is a small plastic button that is depressed when you screw in an end cap. I'm assuming the screen used one works exactly the same; you see the screw switch on the upper left of the first photo above.
