SDCC08 - Dr WHO Replicas!

I am wishing though that we could get the slider version as that is what I see on the screen. But if the spring loaded pop up version is what we WILL see on the screen, then that's alright too.

Agreed. You can sometimes see The Doc slide it out:

The Runaway Bride (You can see him push it back in as well throughout.)
Utopia (Locking the TARDIS at the end.)
Midnight
Sound of the Spheres. (BBC Prom special.)

That's all that I can think of right now.

Still, this new prop looks cool. Price wise, I can do £10 max. :p

You can see it slide yes, but they do always go out of the way to hide the mechanism.

True, but it does often show as being slower and more "slidy" than a pop-up mechanism. Plus, the Doctor has made several references to the Sonic having settings ("Setting 15a," "Setting 56", etc.), and the only adjustable part that could even possibly control that is how far the head is extended/retracted. It would be nice to have the ability to manually control how far in or out the head is on the replica...

Actually the settings have nothing to do with how far the neck is extended. There was some talk and action as in the more recent episodes as they have been twisting the black cap, Martha has in Series 3 and the Doctor has a few times. The settings have never been shown how its achieved, any more than the settings on the old Sonic Prop, which also had a spring loaded mechanism.

I do admit that the slower slide has explictly been shown, but thats more using the props own features...if it popped out before then thats what would have happened. If the BBC want a spring loaded prop, than thats what we are getting, and they will still have settings after that in the series ;)

I'm not disputing how the fictional items works, I'm talking about how the PROP works! I would rather have an exact copy of what is used on the show, rather than an idealized version of what the "fictional tool" would actually do. That would be like taking a TOS tricorder and replacing the data disks with a blinking light display just because it looks 'cooler'.
Now if series five has pop up action...then cool.

I can understand that....but as Neill posted ealier...its what they wanted so whether their new Series 5(or 4.5?) prop also does that remains to be seen, but they want it to do that...we'll see what happens though!

I've no problem with one of each :)

I agree. I love the sonic and would love to have one of each too, but..........

I know we will get the automatic slider version because that is what the BBC wants. I will be happy to have it. I have wanted a real metal working sonic screwdriver for 4 years now. I can hardly wait for it. I will be one of the first to have one if I have anything to say about it.

I was not impressed with the Star Wars products but these do look absolutely gorgeous. Looks like they really spent the time to do them right here. Things are looking up with this line.

I was looking for the right words to say... you said it!

:)

LOL! It's a pleasure to be of service. Normally I have access to a much better vocabulary but I was just so smacked into a blissful daze of stupidity and joy at the site of that beauty replica of the sonic and bolstered into a vibrating state of amazement at the pricing that I ended up performing a brain vomit into the thread. Amazingly it seemed to sum things up perfectly at the time.

Oh and...erm...

DADDY WANTS HIS NEW SONIC FROM MFX!!! YES HE DOES!!!

I'm still highly enthused as you can tell. ;)

Does anyone know if there is a Clockwork man mask for sale anywhere?

Millennium FX - the company who is producing the Sonic Screwdriver - makes one. I would assume when they start selling their other stuff in the US that those would be available too. I went to their website and they don't show the replicas right now.

Yeah! I can't wait for the website to be up. I have been trying to find one of the Clockwork mask. Already started on the costume and the sword/arm thingy. Those are easy to make compaired to the mask. Any idea on the price?

If memory serves (that means I'm probably wrong) the Clockwork Droid masks were around 175 pounds each?? Please dont quote me on that but I know it was somewhere near that price :confused

November seems Sooooooo long away, but with any bit of fortune, we'll all have one in our sweaty hand on 25th December, aiming it at the TV and sonic-ing the poo out of a mutant Cyberman! :lol
