Sculpting, Drying, then Sculpting again Question

Hey guys. I'm in the middle of sculpting a Sorting Hat and I've finished the first layer of clay all around the armature. Now I want to know if I can add the face and fold details on top of that after it dries. My only concern with doing that is blending the edges might be a problem. If it matters, the clay I'm using is homemade made with flour slat and water. Also, do you think I will be able to sand it after it dries? Please respond with an answer and any more tips you might have for this sculpt for me. Thanks!

Never tried that clay medium but being it has water in it, applying it to dry clay is gonna suck the water out of the new clay you lay down and it might be a problem. You may want to spray water over the dry sculpt before adding any more clay.
