They could always throw in some wrestling for a new season - guaranteed.
Exactly. I mean, SyFy is notorious for killing shows at the 5-season mark. I think their budget just doesn't allow for going to 6 seasons, and by 5 seasons you have enough for syndication anyway, so why bother? you've squeezed every dollar out of the show that you can, so it's time to move on.
I'd have less of a problem with that if they didn't REPEATEDLY tell shows at the last second, or tell them "We're renewing you" and then say "Nah, changed our minds."
If I wrote for a show on the SyFy channel, I'd write single-arc seasons that tie up each season with no loose ends. That way, whenever tehy canceled it, at least the story would be done.
I'm with Sheldon on this one, why did they cancel Alphas. Could never understand how W13 got so far.
Well... It's coming back for another season, but with a catch.
Syfy's 'Warehouse 13' Renewed For 6-Episode Fifth and Final Season - Deadline.com
Lame move, SyFy. I'm guessing Haven will be next, with Syfy's "five seasons then done" routine.
SG-1 was the only show that really wrapped up in any sense. And that was, I think, because they had independent funding from MGM.
Meanwhile, at SyFy Channel headquarters...

Right. . . A 6 episode S5 to wrap things up with, now where did we hear that before? I'll believe it when I see it and, sadly, I don't really expect to see it, not if Eureka was any indicator.
You know where Warehouse 13 lost me? When it became a heavy drama instead of a show about people hunting artifacts - it started in Season 2, but didn't get bad until Season 3. Obviously this is completely a personal opinion, but I tuned in to watch two people hunt artifacts, not get into all kinds of personal drama.
My issues with Warehouse 13:
- Cast grew too large. Sorry Jynx, HG, and even Claudia - The show should have stayed with Pete, Myka, and Artie (with the occasional appearance by Ms. Fredricks).
- Character Goofy Swings - The two biggest offenders are Pete and Claudia. Pete has seriously gotten to the point of it's harder for me to believe that the Secret Service would hire him than it is to believe magical artifacts exist. At least, though Pete was pretty consistent - I can't stand Claudia's "I'm goofy! Now I'm emo!"
- Artifacts - Remember when the show used to be about hunting artifacts? The episode was focused around one artifact, we'd get a history lesson on the person the artifact is embodying, and Pete and Myka would have to get into the minds of both the artifact originator and the person using it. Now, the artifact is there and the person using it just wields it. Artifacts used to have side effects as well.
- H.G. Wells - I cannot stand this character and her effect on the show. If you try to destroy all humanity with an artifact, YOU DON'T GET TO CONTINUE WORKING AT THE TOP SECRET ORGANIZATION!!!! They introduced her as a villain, then they thought we should all just accept her as "someone who's really good at heart" - NO. I also hated it that the other characters were so easily won over - especially Myka! Myka should be holding a grudge to the day she died!
I really wish they would have re-focused their efforts on what made the show great in the beginning.
The Lost Room had a different, if you'll forgive the pun, vibe to it. Warehouse 13 was supposed to be the "top men" behind the warehouse at the end of raiders of the Lost Ark. It was supposed to be a campy and fun throwback to the same Indiana Jones style serial. the Lost Room was a serious drama.
The greatest guarantee of failure is when you start out as one type and try to be the other.
You should probably start watching it again. Tonight's episode featured historic context for an artifact and nasty side effects. Also, if you didn't hear, they totally culled the cast.
