Rubie's ANH Leia Blaster--- Anyone seen this yet?

I got mine in the mail today and am very impressed. A bit of sanding, a new paint job, and you have a very accurate Leia blaster!
It almost looks like thed molded a master replicas Leia blaster. I wish they would come out with more 1:1 toys as accurate as these.
I also wish I was able to find more than one. I bought the last one from the selling I got it from.

I might want to get another one to work on but since I really don't have a set plan what I would do with it, I am going to wait a couple months and see if these hit the local costume and retail stores. Not every Rubies item are easily found at brick and mortar stores so it is not a for sure thing.

So likely not at Wal-Mart?

You never know. The first time I ever saw the Rubies Clone Trooper blaster was at Walmart for Halloween. But I have yet to see, Ahsoka"s saber, Plo koon's saber, royal guard staff or gaff I stick in a brick and mortar store and they have all been out for,a few years now.. But you keep seeing vader, Anakin Attack of the Clones, qui gon lightsabers turn up every year. Very frustrating. So it is difficult to say whether or not you will see a new Rubies item in a store.

Sweet! $14 & change with free shipping. Done!
What paint would you recommend? I figure the gun with one texture, the cord another, & still another for the gun grips.

I try to imagine what the original parts would be like. The tomtit/grill piece is black plastic, the grips also black plastic, and the black insulated cord has some sheen as well. So I think those colors should be gloss or semi gloss or a mix. The main body and the muzzle needs to look like a blued/black metal. I am planning to do the body and muzzle in black and rub it with powdered graphite in hopes to get some sort of realistic look.

You can make up your own mind about the colors by looking at pictures of the real Margolin. You can search on line and I also recommend this thread for inspiration: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=120431&highlight=margolin

The one thing I want to avoid is painting it and making it look like painted plastic. Usually i can avoid that by adding weathering but Leia's A New Hope blaster s more conducive to pristine condition (something a princess might carry). I might consider weathering her Return of the Jedi version as it is a battlefield weapon (something a soldier would carry).

Unless they've redesigned it in the past 4 years....you don't want it. It's horribly oversized and terribly inaccurate. The only pictures of it that seem to be used in ads/auctions are these:

But that's not what it looks like. You can kinda see what I mean in this pic:

I know but just to be clear, it was a statement regarding in store availability using that and other items as an example. In short, just because Rubies make it, does not mean you will find it in the stores.

When The Phantom Menace came out, Rubies made some pretty cool hilts. They made a couple versions of each hilt (Obi, Qui, Maul) that were released at the same time. One version had a really great scaled hilt and the twist top to keep the blade in place (except maul had two things you flip out on each end). The blade was smaller due to the size of the hilt. The other version was like you see these days, overs sized and no type of retaining blade feature. The smaller Obi The Phantom Menace version would have been really cool but they made the emitter part with four sections (where you see the black underneath) instead of three.

Don't forget adding weight. I don't want to pick it up and it feel like the light the plastic toy that it is. I have found nuts and bolts glued in here and there works great.

It's got to feel good picking it up.

I have the gun, coil, and grill kit all on the way.

O.

Yeah, I'd never seen the Ahsoka in stores. I had bought one on eBay, but immediately re-sold it. Couldn't stand the sight of it. :sick

Has anyone purchased the Fett rifle yet? I'm curious to know if it's larger than the Hasbro one that was offered a while back (and at Disney).

OK, here is a shot of the Rubies Leia blaster primed so you can see the detail. This is just sanded and primed, nothing else was done.
My photo does not do this blaster justice. Very little work needed, sanding, and painting. Unless you want to bondo the seam lines.
