Rorschach: The Definitive Thread

i thought his scarf was white? :confused

did you ever finish that rorschach coat you made for the person on fedoralounge for 400 bucks?

The scarf is off-white, and our Wyoming scarf is a light camel... maybe a tad too dark for the Rorschach though.

I'm still waiting on the brown waxed cotton to come in! It was supposed to arrive weeks ago, but there has been some sort of delay. Rest assured, I will post as soon as the coat is done!

Kind regards,
Indy

a fan made Rorschach coat..

:eek

On second thought.....I'm gonna call BS on that.....For some reason I get the impression that it's a pic of a screen used costume. It's got a tag in it...and it just looks like a pic you would see durring production.

I believe that is a fan made coat. The lapels don't join in the same way the movie coat does. I also think the buttons on the movie coat are oddly shaped with a rough hewn look to them.

This coat is most impressive though.

Maybe. But most of the shots we've seen of the movie coat (including the ones at the start of this thread) have buttons with two holes and are quite trumpet shaped. This coat appears to have four holes in each button and are flatter in comparison.
The stitching join on the lapels also seems to be of a different configuration.
I could be wrong. But thats how it appears to me.

To make myself clearer I should say the movie coat buttons are more dished or concave.

Your right about the buttons, they are clearly different than the movie coat, unless they made 2 version. But all the pics I have of screen caps and the costume on display has 2 hole buttons not 4 hole, and they are rather concave on the real thing.

I can say with almost 100% certinty that it's an original prop coat.

It's actually not. Someone over on the WCM forums posted that as their fan-made coat. I'm sure they'll be very happy that you consider it exactly like the movie coat, they put a lot of work into it. :lol

its a fan made coat... he even made his own jack sparrow and joker costume amongst others..i wrote the guy who made it, but never heard back : /

all his stuff was top notch.

The buckle on the belt is wrong too. As for the material, I think the photo is really not clear enough to get an accurate representation. In any case, I'll be using brown waxed cotton, just like the original, so that part's covered.

Kind regards,
Indy

I know that theres a replica coat on the way, but I thought I should share a thrift store equivalent that I found:

London_Fog_mens_khaki_trench.jpg

It's a London Fog Maincoats Double Breasted Khaki Trenchcoat. With maybe one or two minor alterations (front seam), it looks to be a decent style match . It'll have to be dyed/waxed/ distressed, but it's a good start.

I found this at funksauce.com (via a Google image search for trenchcoats). I purchased the one that they had in stock for $35.

Here's the seller info, and a couple shots of the manufacturer tags for reference:

London Fog Maincoats double breasted khaki trench coat. Shell 65% polyester, 35% combed cotton. Lined with zip-out lining (upper half gold-silver nylon, lower half khaki faux fur). Four button front for both lefties and righties (8 button view) with brown and white swirl buttons. Fold-down button collar. Vertical hip pockets. Buttoned flap at right shoulder/chest and button flaps at tops of shoulders. Half cape at upper back. Detachable cinch belt with buckle around back. Cinch belts with buckles at top of cuffs. Lining is dry clean only.

I have the coat on hand now and can shoot additional reference shots for anyone interested.

EDIT: Gloves anyone?
