RomanProps: STEEL IS REAL V2

Hey guys, Thanks to Halliwax for spending some time on skype with me to diligently take exact measurements of the Romans, Steel V2, I can now say that the closest match for stencils are my Starkiller 2018 versions. I haven't made a specific version for Roman's because I understood the run to be quite small.

Thank you Trooper_trent and Halliwax for your time and effort!! It's very much appreciated! (y)

Looking great guys! Things are starting to slow down for me I’m going to update the first post tonight

Like Trent said, grab some starkiller stencils and go to town!

It was really fun working with Trent on measuring up, and dialing in the circumferences. Pretty crazy how he can do this

This should be exciting!

For people trying to get the emitter to spin -- what is your plan to go about this? I was thinking about getting a spacer for the neck to the emitter but not sure what I would need.

Hey Halliwax, quick question for you -- the high performance enamel Rustoleum you use on your Anakin Starkiller V2, will that work on this steel as well if the same clean/prep steps are taken?

Same exact steps! I got a video in the works, I’m just slammed with moving..

Before you stencil ALWAYS wipe the whole V2 down with rubbing alcohol, give it 10-15 mins to dry/vaporize. Then stencil ;)

I fooled around today, removed all the rust off my v2. Polished it then blued the booster. I used the gel on one side and super blue on the other

I am still sold if you have a v2 that isn’t rusty, don’t polish it and use that natural steel color as the best match.. in my case when removing the rust it changes the surfaces color so I had no choice but to blue it

Here is the gel, it’s way to dark. Buffed it down little but still too dark

Here’s the super blue liquid, buffed to where I want it

If you want to darken steel. Leave it in hydrochloric (pool) acid, vinegar.. or ferric chloride if you have it. It will etch/darken the steel in about 30 minutes. Afterwards soak it in bicarb soda and water to neutralize the acid. I used to do up butchers steels the old way, and by far those are the best methods. The finish is really nice.

So I played around in the shed last night. Filmed me trying to dent the emitter

Safe to say this emitter beat the Halliwax.. I had to hit this so hard the camera shakes, stuff continually falls off shelf’s.. it’s actually a terrible video I don’t even know If I’m going to post it

I heated this sucker up to 300degrees, can’t really get a halo in it. But got the dents. I had to use a 16oz hammer to get results.. which dinged up the emitter..

Not very happy with my out come.

I failed because steel just won’t mimic what we have in the pictures. Can’t sculpt the steel like I can the aluminum..

At first I was going to use it dented.. now looking at how great others have made theirs with out the dents I think I’m just going to machine a emitter out of aluminum and leave it straight..

Really beaten last night.. kind of down on myself that I couldn’t get this to work.

Hey man, you did a LOT of work to discover how this steel holds up. To be honest, this is what would really happen if they duelled with steel and it looks like the early bent balance pipe replicas
