Done / Completed Rogue One - Death Star plans Hard Drive -Taking Payments - New Pics 02/27

Hi guys,

So I've been through the Bluray and taken a bunch more caps, which I've loaded up here, feel free to drownload, browse and conduct horrible experiments on :https://www.dropbox.com/sh/r4smxzhtlnfzjqk/AAACBYDvAdZ0tUcc7wemVefsa?dl=0

The only shot I can find in the special features is this one, which shows the white tabs on the bottom quite well

This shot from the movie seems to show the window on the top seems to have a green tint with indistinguishable black characters. On this and several shots other shots when lightened in Photoshop seem to show that there is some minimal weathering on the handle.

I have now completed ten units prior to adding detailing. I have a couple more to clean up, drill and paint, and I will concentrate on finishing these up this week before starting in on reworking the graphics, cutting and adding the details. I hope to be able to get these done and out to you guys by the end of next week, but please bear with me, completing this many finished props as well as my usual work has been quite daunting :wacko

I do, however, have my assistant on the case, currently on quality control (you've been warned :lol)

Now, I'm off to watch the movie!

Very cool!.. thanks for the update and screen shots, there seems plenty to work with, looking forward to seeing the final prop and again thanks for all the time & effort into making this as accurate as possible...

A couple of shots of the new circuit board/dials. The process used on the prototype of overspraying engraved lines was not giving me the quality required, so they have been printed onto vinyl sheet, then applied to the laser-cut parts.

Firstly thanks for all your time and effort in developing the prop and the WIP updates, can I ask are vinyl decals the best way to replicate & apply the details, as the details on the screen prop seem to be etched, its hard to see the level of detail on the vinyl decals as the images are not high res when downloaded, thanks...

Can you make the lines on the discs complete? The lines are around the disc. Also under the acrylic glass.

The lines are not visible under the frosted acrylic pieces (which I have not cut yet) in the image in the visual guide, so I have reproduced what can be seen in the available reference.

Timbuktu, I have sent you a PM.

With regard to the changes - I am seeking to make the best prop for you guys I am capable of. The technique used previously is very hit and miss due to the tiny dimensions of the mask used. The lines that are produced are not as sharp as the printed version, and due to the unreliability of the process, is very wasteful of material. Please turst me that the printed version looks superior.

Cheers,

Simon

Looks really good. Got your PM thus i am posting here. The details look great and the overall hard drive looks sharp. When you can post a finished photo of both back and fronts a completely finished piece. The devil is in the details all the time thanks!

Everything looks great to me. The printed details are only printed on vinyl, correct? They're not vinyl stickers? I'm just worried about vinyl stickers peeling off later down the line. As long as thats not an issue. I'm good with everything so far.

They are printed on vinyl sheet, then glued to the parts. There shouldn't be any problem with peeling, as I've used this teqhnique before without any problems of peeling or fading :thumbsup

looking good!.
sorry to add to all the questions. Are the stickers just the black lines? then glued to the shiny acrylic disk?
or are they the size of the disks and glued over the entire disk surface?

Either way I cant wait for this!! thanks for all the attention to detail and making sure everyone is happy !

They are the size of the whole disk.

Hard to tell from the photo, but are the black lines on the vinyl properly straight and circular? They look a little wobbly or hand-drawn on the photos you've posted. The right side of the large white disc also looks a bit uneven - has there been a fault in the cutting, or is it just the photo?

I would also say that even though it can't be seen in the photo of the original prop (as they're covered by acrylic), the black circular lines on the white discs should be continued around the whole circle - when viewed from an angle (http://www.therpf.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=706218&d=1486844338) it will look weird if the lines just stop.

I also think the black circular lines need to be more even with the sides of the white discs - you can see here that the black circles should be concentric, with the outer edge of the white disc also concentric to the black lines - http://www.therpf.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=711485&d=1488578990 - on your prop so far, the black lines get closer and closer to the outer edge of the white disc (not an even distance all around) - this is particularly evident on upper left side of the lower white circle:

I think Howlrunner has said most of what I would have pointed out, the only thing I would add is I think the lines do continue under the frosted part as can be seen in an image posted earlier (look at the innermost black line in the right hand disc you can see the faint outline all around under the frosted part)

Here another pic of the parts. I noticed on the scan from the book scan that there are two additional black rings at the top and bottom of the black section, which I have incorporated:

At this point I am going to have to lock down these parts. I have recreated the details to the best of my ability from what I see on the reference that is available. The parts have been created and I am moving on to to cut and fit the clear parts that sit on the dial section. Most of the work is now done on creating individual parts, I will be shipping completed units in the next few weeks.

I am currently the process of clean-up, priming, and spraying the units. All of the detail parts ie the individually laser cut and engraved pieces will be the last parts to be created, and updated versions will be posted on the thread for approval first. This won't happen until after the release of the Blu-ray, in order to incorporate any new reference that may become available. When everyone is happy all units will be shipped simultaneously.

I have been a big supporter of this run, however I am concerned where this is heading.

I was full of praise with the update, advising you would delay final details of parts until after the Blu-ray was release and that updated versions would be posted for approval.

However it seems despite a number of people raising issues with the latest update photos, we are now being told, at this point you are going to lock down these parts and will be shipping completed units in the next few weeks.

I do not see how this process is "for approval" or "when everyone is happy"
