Done / Completed Rogue One - Death Star plans Hard Drive -Taking Payments - New Pics 02/27

Guys,

It's been a long day, tired and frazzled, please disregard my last post. I will rework the dial graphics again to take onboard the observations, then post the artwork here before cutting. I will have to order in some more styrene sheet to recut the parts, so it will take a little longer. Please bear with me, as this project has proved more stressful (and expensive) than I'd hoped for!

I agree, see above post. Stress levels have been high recently I sincerely want this to be right.

I have been a big supporter of this run, however I am concerned where this is heading.

I was full of praise with the update, advising you would delay final details of parts until after the Blu-ray was release and that updated versions would be posted for approval.

However it seems despite a number of people raising issues with the latest update photos, we are now being told, at this point you are going to lock down these parts and will be shipping completed units in the next few weeks.

I do not see how this process is "for approval" or "when everyone is happy"

Hey! Just wanted to chime in on things.

Mostly, I stay quiet during this process because I'm much more of a collector than a maker, so I rarely know what I'm talking about. The processes seem fine to me, though I can't say that counts for much. What I can speak up for is timing. I know I asked about Celebration, but just out of curiosity. I'm in no rush. I'd much rather the making be fun and enjoyable - for all parties. So if a breather is needed to get back on track or reduce stress, that's fine by me. If getting the run out is what's needed, that's also fine by me.

Obviously, I'm not the only one involved, and I have no power to call anything. But that's my take! Making and having props is a passion (even though an often frustrating one).

Thanks for your response. Most of the parts are cut now. I've ordered some replacement materials for the dials, then it will just be a matter of assembly. Shouldn't be too long now :)

Yeah, I am so super stoked for this. I cant wait! But like Cjane am willing to wait for it to be right.. Thanks for the efforts Birdie!

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to do this right. I don't know about everyone else, but I'd personally far rather that this was done slowly and correct than quickly and have an end product that would niggle at me.

Your revision looks much better. There's a slight slip that I've circled in red (click to see a larger version). The circles are better, but still a bit funky. The distance between black circular lines should be the same at all points. The green and blue lines that I've quickly drawn on should therefore be the same length, but you can see that they're not. What software are you using to draw this graphic? Does it have to be a vector file or is it a JPG. Are you drawing it using curves or circles? If you've using circles, you need to make sure that each on has the same centre point. Spacing between black dots could also be a little more equi-distant - the dots on the right are closer together than the dots on the left.

Does anyone else agree, or do people think I'm being too picky?

Agree here :) but I've always been picky myself too! Obviously it would be wonderful to have the changes Howlrunner mentioned incorporated because it would make for a better replica, however if it's going to cause stress and issues I don't want that!

This may have already been addressed, but does it come with the green locater light on the handle?

Okay giys,

Some good news :)

I've sourced some composite laminate which is ideal for for engraving. The plastic is white on top with a black backing, I cut the dials today and they look great. I'm going to order some blue on white tomorrow to cut the circuit board, so everything will be back to engraved rather than printed vinyl :D

Hi guys,

A quick update:

The laminate plastic has proved an absolute godsend :)

Today I cut the engraved blue on white circuit boards and they look terrific. They also do a CO2 laserable brushed aluminium on black, which I have used to cut the front plates, which also look great and far superior to the oversprayed reflective acrylic used for the prototype.

I will get some pics up tomorrow. Thanks for all your patience and support, we are on the home stretch now :D

Bump for awesome pics of new laser cut disks and general rogue one death star hard drive home stretch coolness!
