I would think yours is still more accurate, as they are still having to use old pics as ref. I can't wait for the movie to be out on bluray just to pick apart the detail of the death star. I wonder if they plan on showing the backside they never was finished on the model. Or if those silver tape strips were added on the new one. I'm sure we'll find a ton of differences, but I'm glad they still did a pretty good job at it. I highly doubt they are looking at every point of light and matching that perfectly.
Thanks! 4K would be even better!
I still don't know the history behind the currently-visible silver strips on the surface.
While my project answered several mysteries and questions of the original build, I fear much information has gone with Mr. McQuarrie. I think Lorne Peterson may be the most knowledgeable of those remaining (and old whats-his-name with the stylish 70's wardrobe). But I still do not know how the original speckle was achieved, and I am still not ruling out that some form of applique was applied to the original model surface.
I think that the silver that is now visible is where applied material has come off, exposing the silver under-coat.

These are the easiest points to tell if its a flipped image or not. The longer one under the dish being the best.

Virtually every shot of the DS in ANH seems to show a different configuration. Most notable are the left-to-right flops Michael has shown, but there are shots in the final print of ANH where it is UPSIDE DOWN...!
