Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

And dammit all if "they" now don't have me second-guessing my work!

Note the differences in the circled areas. The DDS has a series of vertical lines in the open grey area, that my model does not have. So, now - is this artistic interpretation, or do they have access to better reference than I do and is this accurate to how the original model was "back in the day"...?

I would think yours is still more accurate, as they are still having to use old pics as ref. I can't wait for the movie to be out on bluray just to pick apart the detail of the death star. I wonder if they plan on showing the backside they never was finished on the model. Or if those silver tape strips were added on the new one. I'm sure we'll find a ton of differences, but I'm glad they still did a pretty good job at it. I highly doubt they are looking at every point of light and matching that perfectly.

Oh, and another thing I find interesting. The image in ANH is flipped to how the model was made...at least one shot made it in unflipped. This new movie looks like it will all be unflipped. I wonder how they came to that decision? Unless they change it from the teaser.

The DS from ROTJ was flipped, so the unfinished side would be in the light. Never heard about the ANH model being flipped, not that it would make much difference ;)

I'd really like to see the engine, where it's located etc. I imagine a dish of some kind on the equatorial line opposite the super laser.

These are the easiest points to tell if its a flipped image or not. The longer one under the dish being the best.

Thanks! 4K would be even better!

I still don't know the history behind the currently-visible silver strips on the surface.

While my project answered several mysteries and questions of the original build, I fear much information has gone with Mr. McQuarrie. I think Lorne Peterson may be the most knowledgeable of those remaining (and old whats-his-name with the stylish 70's wardrobe). But I still do not know how the original speckle was achieved, and I am still not ruling out that some form of applique was applied to the original model surface.

I think that the silver that is now visible is where applied material has come off, exposing the silver under-coat.

Virtually every shot of the DS in ANH seems to show a different configuration. Most notable are the left-to-right flops Michael has shown, but there are shots in the final print of ANH where it is UPSIDE DOWN...!

The thermal exhaust port on the first death star was no more than 2 meters wide, which for the size of a small moon is pretty tiny, AND ray shielded. People seem to forget that part when they claim that it's such a huge design flaw.

1. It's not another Death Star, it's the first one again ;)
2. This post is straight up trolling.
1. Based on the substantial changes between the Death Star in the trailer and the Death Star in Star Wars, it's obviously a new, different Death Star in Rogue One.

:D

Nothing is confirmed at the moment. If not Ian McDiarmid, I think JE Jones is going to be credited in this film, unless they decide to go for a quick visual cameo for the character without any dialogue.

McDiarmid as the Emperor would be awesome. I liked him in the Prequels as Palps and Sidious, except the scenes with the Jedi fight, where he was like crazy LOL.

I am by far an expert on the Death Star so the surface details didn't seem out of place.

Although I'm a little surprised at the size of the Death Star compared to the Star Destroyers.

I always thought they would look larger relative to the Death Star, especially being that close.

I suppose the simple scale math us if the DS is 100 miles in diameter and a SD is 1 mile long, the DS is 100 SD's across.
