Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

He also said "Great shot, kid. That was 1 in a million"

They beat it over the head that he used the Force to blow it up.

That's why this conversation didn't happen....

"Luke, you turned off your targeting computer... that's cool. Take the shot without it... all you need is to have no one shooting at you from behind... we only have those as a suggestion..."

He also said "Great shot, kid. That was 1 in a million"

Han was being generous. Immediately after saying that, he turned to Chewie and said, "Ya know, sometimes I amaze even myself.". And then Chewie rolled his eyes. But they cut it out of the theatrical release, deciding to save that line for the next movie.

Sir, the odds of successfully shooting a proton torpedo down the exhaust port from an x-wing is approximately 12,856,338 to one!

Keep those stats coming! I like to make decisions by carefully dissecting the odds, and moving forward carefully and accordingly!

It's not okay to be a Mary Sue, but a Marty Stu if perfectly acceptable.

Stupid terms either way (with a Trek fanfic origin? go figure) - and not really applicable if for only one reason: the self-insertion or wish fulfillment aspect of it..

Forbes has some great insight into it. ...and I'm more apt to agree with them than a misogynist.

Death Star plans?

Yeah but she didn't know... the line was "You're afraid that you'll nevah be as strong as Darth Vadah!"... she got that from him. Those were HIS fears she was sensing while she was trying to get him out of her head.

Oh and the same day Luke learned about the force he blocked 3 blaster shots blindfolded and then made a shot that was one in a million if not using a targeting computer... which failed the first time Red Leader tried using it.

Luke-Rey Sue.

Again that's another "because the force".
It's delivered in an aggressive mannerism of one with knowledge of Vader getting in her dig with insider knowledge.

In the cut scenes I think we can consider canon....Luke was ridiculed by his local friends, called names, despite being a good skyhopper pilot.
Luke would not stand up to his Uncle and join the academy.
Luke lost R2. Luke got knocked on his ass by a sand person, saved by an old man wailing noises.
Luke refused to help Leia and wanted to again obey his uncle and keep drinking
the blue milk. Luke failed to sense danger and save his aunt and uncle despite born into the force gifted world.
Luke caved in to sending the droids outside of the cantina.
Luke could not defend himself in the bar for two seconds and saved by an old man... again. Luke was ready to walk out on Han Solo.
Luke was dueling a "remote" He got zapped on the butt too. Not fighting an actual practitioner in the dark side with years of experience.
Luke nearly died in an X-wing going in too fast "I got a little cooked but I'm ok" Luke was unable to save his best friend in this battle.
Luke was unable to keep R2 from taking a direct hit.
Luke did not decide to use the force by himself in the trench run, Kenobi was injecting himself for him to do so. It was not Luke's idea
that's for sure. Without Kenobi, we assume the targeting computer would have failed again.

Luke's force skills barely tickled the needle on the meter.

Now, now, there's no need to resort to personal attacks on your fellow RPFers who disagree with you. You're better than that, JD.

Personally I think if Rey had been male far more people would have been saying WTF is with this new guy being so bad ass so quick?

Anyways, this isn't TFA thread so I'm going to get back on topic before a mod gets injective.

The plans were transmitted to Leia so there will be a lack of a physical delivery to her, I wonder if this will play dramatically well?
Will there simply be a button push by the good guys and ha ha got you bad guys moment.. before they are you know blown to bits? And of course
we know the Empire knew it got transmitted, they were hot on the tail of Leia. Curious how they will portray all this?

Wasn't arguing that Luke fell under the Male Mary Sue bit... my comment was more facetious.

It just bugs me that we have decades of awesome male characters, kicking ass, taking names... pulled out of retirement for one last act of vengeance...

But two movies this year had female leads and there was such a weird backlash against them.... Male whiners hating that Mad Max answered to Furiousa... That Rey could take care of herself out of the gates...

If they aren't tied to railway tracks, or Jabba, it's open season. They get labeled as "uninteresting, and here's why..." and I guarantee 98% of the people saying this are GUYS.

And now we are introduced to a lead female in this movie (Rogue One) and everyone uses it to take more shots at Rey because they don't have enough info to call the new girl a Mary Sue yet.

Frustrating.

Well personally I loved Furiosa, but yes there were attacks on that character. Probably because of people simply
wanting more Max. Rey didn''t work for me so once bitten twice shy is what is going on here.
Again though, different creative team and this is no force user, I think this new character should be quite different.
