I don't mind the lead being a female for a second straight film. But I will mind if she is a Mary Sue for the second straight film. Let's hope this heroine exhibits vulnerabilities and human frailty.

I mean that mostly as a joke, but I just don't see your POV on this one. Rey is set up as being highly independent right from the get-go on Jakku, and supremely capable.
But the scene were Kylo Ren captures her perfectly illustrates her ineffectiveness and vulnerability. I have no problem chalking up her super-heroics toward the end of the film to Jedi-like instincts, honed through years of surviving the harshness of Jakku on her own. Rey kicks ass, and I love that about her.

Not to completely derail - I love this trailer. This looks so much like ANH in all the right ways.

Bad idea to change the Stormtroopers armor and the AT-ATs. This is supposed to be what.....a few months before ANH? The ST armor was the same for ANH to ROTJ but hey, we need to spice things up because telling a good story isnt good enough.

Little criticism, other than that im excited to see this. Forrest whittaker isa personal favorite and the lady who plays Mon Mothma nailed her likeness.

Yeah this is why meshing with SW77 is deeply on my mind, you want things to fit, but we can't expect nothing new, nor would we not want some surprises. I guess think of it as if you were exposed to one front in WWII say the Pacific theater, you would see some variants and different equipment deployed on the European fronts..
So yes we should see mostly familiar stuff, but a bit here and there new should not be unexpected. Who knows maybe the "new" trooper is actually the last of some old group that doesn't survive beyond this film.

If you grew up with Dark Forces, Rogue Squadron and X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, I dont see how you couldn't like this.

I'll reiterate it as many times as need be...

The biggest flaw any character in any "high concept" movie can have is that they deny the call to adventure...

It would be like Obi wan saying "There's Mos Eisley.... we should get go-"

"Nope! I'm out! I don't need your rebellion."

Rey chose to deny the call more than once.. At no time did she ever choose to go on this adventure...

She wanted to go back to Jakku

She said no when Han offered her a job.

She ran from the saber and the call from the force.

She only ends up on Starkiller base because she was dragged there by Kylo.

A Mary Sue would have said yes to leaving Jakku behind, would have take Han up on his offer, and grabbed that saber and said "And where can I become a jedi now?"

Yes she did offer some token protests but that's not a get out of Mary Sue jail free card, and went on and did everything anyways and was awesome at everything beyond reasonable expectations. Under the Mary Sue classification she is simply a minor varying flavor.. perhaps. I don't think she qualifies as variant or sub species and is a Mary Sue.
The ads on TV have been running nonstop for the blu ray and it's so annoying hearing that voice over and over.... "You will nevah be as powaful as Darth Vadah!" Ugh. HOW THE HELL WOULD YOU KNOW? I want to scream back. LOL Oh yeah because The Force. that she like just learned about yesterday.

ROTJ armor is far more different from ANH armor than the R1 is.

The bothans quote is for the 2nd Death Star.

IMO, the dish is just being installed and never comes back out. Sort of how aircraft carriers are built where they build them in the shipyard and then lift them into place as giant pieces.

I do believe that line was preceded by "You are afraid that..." she pushed her way into his mind as a countermeasure and read his deepest emotions
oh, and one other point I would like to make. I HATE LABELS, everything has to have a bloody label :facepalm "mary sue" is just the latest in labels that I hate.

alright, back to topic! I LOVED this trailer! everything looks right, the ships, the sets, the costumes, everything!
interesting question for those in the know (if you are able to say anything haha) are there reports of them using any miniatures for the ships? I think that would a really smart aesthetic move if they were to do it

Yeah but she didn't know... the line was "You're afraid that you'll nevah be as strong as Darth Vadah!"... she got that from him. Those were HIS fears she was sensing while she was trying to get him out of her head.

Oh and the same day Luke learned about the force he blocked 3 blaster shots blindfolded and then made a shot that was one in a million if not using a targeting computer... which failed the first time Red Leader tried using it.

There could have been so many movies right now if Lucas sold to Disney10 years ago.... Look at everything they're doing with it just in the last (under) 3 years.

However the tech is a lot better now in more believable effects, so at the same time it's probably better timing now...
