Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

Yeah, well, the year before I saw them open air (not a festival though!) with Ghost as support act, ON MY BIRTHDAY. That was cool enough.

Thats pretty cool. Except the Ghost part. I cant stand them, at all.

I'm laying sick at home with a fever so I couldn't support our troops (501st) and watch the movie today...
I read a review in the local paper and it contained a spoiler. I know the reviewer, so I know he should have known better: we had held a discussion on Star Wars spoilers him and I...

i don't put people on ignore, I know what I am and I am made of sterner stuff then you apparently.

Whenever I hear "sterner stuff" I cant help but think of Optimus Prime when he fights Megatron in the original movie.

Discussion is your nickname for your fist? Did you have a Q & A session after?

Also, ready for the IMAX 3D in Lacey on Saturday! Pretty pumped

Rarely read movie reviews anymore, sometimes scan or watch a youtube vid from channels I subscribe to.
Thanks to those that posted links. Just reinforces my belief that don't need some faux sophisticate, pretentious ***** of the Fourth Estate tell me if a show or movie is good.
See everyone in the post thread.

What a letdown. I had a lot of hope for this one.

Good luck trying to make sense of the rapid jumping between 30 second scenes throughout the first half, let alone the mindless technical blabber they spout through the final battle. And the music? Non-existant.

It was filled with wasted opportunities and over-caffienated, sugared up nonsense. There was a lot of good stuff in this movie, but could barely enjoy it as it would be immediately cutoff by the next scene.

Watched the movie yesterday and really enjoyed it. Was a looooot better than Episode 7...

By the way, Reelo, we were in the exact same place at the same time. Didn't know You are from Luxembourg .

personally think that the movie is soooooo good. They really did a great job ! Absolutely loved the characters :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Seen it. Loved it!!!

While I do agree the scene jumping was a bit abrupt I can't see how anyone couldn't make sense of what was going on. It was pretty simple.

Wasn't planing on seeing this in theaters after the letdown that was Episode VII, but since I won't watch VIII and IX this is my last chance to see a new Star Wars movie on the big screen for a couple of years. And the more mixed (and nuanced) reviews for Rogue One actually give me (a new) hope since Force Awakens was pretty much universally praised by the same critics. After watching the Rogue One teaser and trailers just once (if at all) thus far, I rewatched the final trailer about 10 times in a row last night ... guess I'm ready to get my ticket :lol The advantage Rogue One has over Episode VII is that it doesn't have the weight of 30+ years of expectations on its shoulders. Hell, two days ago I was convinced I would wait for the Rogue One Blu-Ray...

Are you sure? In particular, I could not follow what they were doing at all while on Scarif and much of it seemed incredibly convoluted.

There were so many random things they were doing that seemed to pop out of nowhere. Connect a wire, flip a switch, find the right file, get a signal, get a signal from the ship, but get a signal from the tower?

ANH had the simple goal in the final battle to fly down the trench and shoot the hole while drama built around it as the rebels were knocked out one by one ending up with the task being left to Luke. This one had so many bizarre technical things coming up that they seemed to just be meant to extend the action rather than add any real drama to the battle, and I can't recall many of the purposes to any of it.

Wow! After the disappointment of last Christmas, I think this has suitably made up for it.

In fact, if the film consisted of just the last 10 minutes, that would have made up for it!

As my son said, '...seriously, are you crying?' (Yes, I was there back in the UK in '78).

Saw it tonight, and thought it was great, better than TFA imo.
I heard some complaints about it jumping around or being hard to follow, but I don't get that at all. Pretty straightforward to me. I liked most of the references and tie-ins to ANH (especially having rewatched it earlier today), and the whole ending including the battle was cool. I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

I think there are some ways it perhaps doesn't quite perfectly mesh with ANH, but it still works as a great companion piece, and even enhances ANH in some ways for me.
