Exactly, her scenes were cut, so she wasn't actually in the prequels. Therefore her being in R1 won't make people who hated the prequels boo at the screen. We know Genevieve O'reilly is in this film. She was first cast as Mon Mothma for EP3. Her scenes were cut, but she can be seen in the background and in the deleted scenes.
On Jyn's story:
“She has been detained [by the Rebellion] and is being given an opportunity to be useful. And by being useful, it may commute her sentence…“She has been detained [by the Rebellion] and is being given an opportunity to be useful. And by being useful, it may commute her sentence…
How does a small band of rebels have the authority to arrest, detain and sentence somebody? Judging by her reluctance in the trailer it appears more like kidnapping and coersion. Hope they handle that better than its looking at the moment.
And where was she in the background? If I - someone who really dug the prequels - didn't see her back there, I doubt casual fans - who wouldn't even know to look for her - would have noticed her either.
Simple, they found her sneaking into, on, or around a Rebel base or accidentally "making" some Rebel spies. I don't think that they went out of their way to arrest her, she was probably just somewhere at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Hrm. Ok, makes sense. Still never noticed her before lolShe appears amongst the crowd who greet Palpatine on the landing pad after he is rescued from Grievous. Just before the shot where Lucas sandwiched Palpatine between his two daughters.
Why didn't we see TIE Bombers in ROTJ?
The fact that Mon Mothma may have appeared in a prequel does not make her a "prequel character". She originated in the OT. By that rationale, Yoda and Chewbacca would also be classified as such.
I think Jyn was just a regular ol criminal surviving the galaxy. She caught the eye of some Rebel Officers and they wanted her skills. Luke was a farmboy, Anakin was a slave, Han was a smuggler, they all started out small but made a huge difference. Just my thought![]()

Luke was dragged into the conflict when the big evil empire landed at his door and bbq'ed his family. Anakin was freed/resued by Jedi, pre Empire days and Han was hired to smuggle a couple of people.
Non of them were arrested by a bunch of criminals and forced on to a highly dangerous mission in order to get a lighter sentence. I find it ethically dubious and it loses some of my sympathy for the rebellion.
