Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Post-release)

Poor Krennic, the empty chair will forever make me sad now. He had so much time invested in the Death Star project. Course I guess he wouldda got all blowed up like Tarkin but still.

True...he never got to see it destroy an entire planet.

:cry

I like to think that somewhere, while Obi Wan sensed millions of voices crying out in terror and then suddenly silenced, that he could also feel one ghost-voice gleefully squealing at the firepower of a fully functioning battle station....

:)

I liked the fact that the TIE Striker was only on Scariff. It fits with the old EU where the experimental TIEs (Advanced and Defender) were sparsely deployed around research stations and things. Also I think the ion torpedoes were from the old EU. They first appeared in TIE Fighter, unless they were in the WEG game sourcebooks.

The empty chair is not Krennic's. Krennic's chair is occupied by Tarkin in that scene. ;)

Regarding the Death Star and hyperspace/having to orbit Yavin... It followed the Falcon's course. The Falcon flew straight to Yavin, dropped out of hyperspace, and then flew around the planet. So the Death Star came out of hyperspace in the same relative place a few hours or more later. If they'd known in advance that the base was on a moon on the far side, they probably would have set a course to pass above or below the gas giant and emerge from hyperspace on the side where the moon was.

Regarding the Biggs-on-Tatooine scene... It never worked with the timeline of the movie. He was visiting home after graduation and before he reported to his first posting. He told Luke he was going to jump ship at their next port-of-call and try to contact the Rebellion. Given Luke makes it to the Rebel base where Biggs already is roughly three days after the day the Tantive IV is captured, I really don't feel he had enough time to do what he said and have enough rep with the Rebels to be able to vouch for Luke. My headcanon is to split the whole deleted sequence into "Luke sees the space battle and goes to tell his friends, who don't believe him" on the day of, and "Luke wistfully remembers when Biggs came to visit after his graduation" a few weeks (or something) earlier.

If Jeddha is an ancient Jedi Temple does that mean Luke is on the wrong planet from TFA???

yeah,i wondered about that.

Jedha is an ancient temple and how to a lot of Kyber crystals, but it's not "The First Jedi Temple" as stated in TFA. So Luke's in the right place.

There were a LOT of temples established and abandoned over the millennia of the existence of the Jedi order, and there were no doubt many temples operating throughout the Republic when they fell; the one on Coruscant was just the main one because that's where the capital of the Republic was.

I believe the estimated timeframe of ANH was 6 days.

It's funny, of all of the gripes I've seen hear about R1 there's one small plot hole that I'm surprised no one has mentioned. When R1's U-Wing lands on Scariff they get boarded for an inspection by an Imperial officer and the ground crew guy (or gal), right? That's 2 people and when they walk out a little later they now have a K2 droid with them, the officer looks different, and the ground crew person is a whole lot shorter and the guards outside the U-Wing didn't notice this? Also, when Cass is walking inside the base on Scariff, does no one notice that he's rather scruffy looking for an Imperial? All the Imperials we see have (relatively) short hair and are mostly clean shaven and the few that do have facial hair have neatly trimmed mustaches and/or beards, they don't look like they haven't shaven in several days.

It's a minor nitpick and it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the movie at all, but it is something that I noticed. I guess it's just one of those suspension of disbelief things, you just have to accept that the Imperials didn't notice these things for whatever reason.

I made it! I avoided all the threads and knew very little going in. But I also had expectations on par with TFA (mediocre). Pleasantly surprised.....really surprised. Loved the dark gritty feel and the visuals were off the chart sans CGI Tarkin and Leia. Tarkin looked good for the most part, but when I saw Leia from behind i thought, "please dont screw this up.' Oh well. It was cool to see the back story and made a great stand alone film.

Correction, not a U-Wing but an Imperial Cargo transport they stole.

I know what you mean though. I just have to go with this one and say its possible. Rebellions are built on hope after all...

:) Yeah it was cool to see the back story......and I really loved seeing the AT-ACTs :) and hearing comments from K-2SO...So what other scenes or characters were everyone else's favorites?

Curious what that's derived from. Day 1: Tantive IV arrives over Tatooine, is captured, droids land. Evening, R2 is captured. Next morning, day 2, Threepio is captured. Evening, R2 leaves after Luke removes restraining bolt. Day 3: they find R2, Larses killed, leave Tatooine. The whole time in hyperspace, on the Death Star, and getting to the Rebel base seems to take less than a day -- or at least no one sleeps. Although Luke is pretty wiped out about Ben and we have no idea how long the trip is from Alderaan to Yavin, so let that be the next day they arrive. If the Death Star takes it stime getting there, I can stretch it out to maybe one more day. Which is five. But six days? How?

Has it ever been established that they can track a ship while it actually is in hyperspace? Perhaps the ship has to actually come out of hyperspace at it's destination before it can be tracked. Maybe if it took a day for the Falcon to come out of hyperspace at Yavin IV, only then would the Death Star know where it was. Maybe it then took a day for the DS to get there. No real way to know how long it took to analyze the data and get organized for the attack.

I know that theory is just a stretch, tho.....Just postulating.

EDIT: No I guess that theory wouldn't work, otherwise that would mess up the beginning of ANH with the Star Destroyer catching the Tantive IV at Tatooine.

I'm still good with no crawl - I do think they needed a better intro/title sequence, but this isn't it. ...and referring to Galen Erso as Krennic's long lost friend seems to be a bit of a stretch.

The friendship element is being pulled from Catalyst, Galen and Orson met in school and came up through the science ranks together. In the film Orson does know Lyra, even says she's always been a problem which also references events in the book. And we do see the flashback to the apartment on Corouscant where they are younger and all together.

Regarding the crawl this film could have had one, it would have seemed a natural fit. But what about the Han Solo film or a Boba Fett or Obi-wan stand alone? Then it would seem very out of place. I agree with the decision to forgo a crawl for these films.

I think the biggest question is how long the trip from Tatooine to Alderaan took. Although on screen it seems brief that could have been a few days. It helps give Luke a little more time to train.

I'm a huge fan of morally grey characters in SW. Han Solo always being way up there. So Cassian fell promptly into that category the instant I watched him shoot another rebel spy in the back. I like redemption stories, and that was very much what his arc was. He found a cause worth fighting for and that was his atonement for all of the bad things he'd done in the past. Cassian was a huge highlight for me in the movie.

Just jumping on the ship here, but the whole time line in hyperspace is I think left ambiguous for a good reason. It’s just not consequential to show every minutia of activity during the trip.

Han: “Kid! Make sure you pee before we leave hyperspace!”
Luke: “aww- c’mon, Han. I’m a big boy! I know when I have to go”
Han: “okay, but I’m not pulling over if you have to go!”
---
Later that trip- who knows how long, and really, it doesn’t matter

Ben: “that’s no moon”
Luke: “I have to pee!”
Chewie: “yarrraaaahaaaaagaaaagaaaaaaa”
Han: “Ya, you tell him Chewie”
Luke: “aaaw- but I really have to go”
Han: “go on that space station after we’re tractored in!”

Actually- none of that is really relevant to the thread. But I hope it was entertaining. A little?

The cause worth fighting for was not his atonement . it WAS the reason of all the bad things he'd done in the past.
